Las intoxicaciones por consumo de especies del género Senecio representan la intoxicación asociada a plantas más frecuente en animales de producción en el mundo. En el Este de Uruguay es la principal causa tóxica de muerte en bovinos con un crecimiento exponencial en los últimos años en departamentos vecinos a la frontera con Brasil.
