Le rayon de déforestation autour de la ville de Lubumbashi (Haut-Katanga, R.D. Congo): synthèse [PDF]

open access: yesTropicultura, 2017
The Deforestation Radius Around Lubumbashi City (Upper Katanga, DR Congo): Synthesis. The Miombo woodland is a type of vegetation widely distributed in Zambezian Africa where it provides timber and non-timber forest products to millions of inhabitants ...

Modeling curvature-dependent subcellular localization of the small sporulation protein SpoVM in Bacillus subtilis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Recent in vivo experiments suggest that in the bacterium, Bacillus subtilis, the cue for the localization of the small sporulation protein, SpoVM, an essential factor in spore coat formation, is curvature of the bacterial plasma membrane.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Charging Process in Dusty Plasma of Large-Size Dust Particles

open access: yesRemote Sensing
During reentry, the high temperatures experienced by near-space hypersonic vehicles result in surface ablation, generating ablative particles. These particles become part of a plasma, commonly referred to as a “dusty plasma sheath” in radar remote ...

Two-dimensional distributed strain sensing with an Archimedean spiral arrangement in optical frequency domain reflectometry

open access: yesNanotechnology and Precision Engineering, 2018
We demonstrate a distributed two-dimensional (2D) strain-sensing system in optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) with an Archimedean spiral arrangement of the sensing fiber.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Correlation between the toroidal modes of an elastic sphere and the viscosity of liquids

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mécanique, 2021
Vibration characteristics of elastic nanostructures embedded in fluid medium have been used for biological and mechanical sensing and also to investigate materials and mechanical properties.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
