Global study of variability in olfactory sensitivity.
Behavioral Neuroscience, 2020Variability in human olfactory sensitivity has been attributed to individual-level factors such as genetics, age, sex, medical history of infections and trauma, neurogenerative diseases, and emotional disorders. Scarce evidence exists on the cross-cultural variation in olfactory sensitivity.

Variability sensitive Markov decision processes
Proceedings of the 28th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1992Considered are time-average Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) with finite state and action spaces. Two definitions of variability are introduced, namely, the expected time-average variability and time-average expected variability. The two criteria are in general different, although they can both be employed to penalize for variance in the stream of ...

An Omitted Variable Bias Framework for Sensitivity Analysis of Instrumental Variables
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2022Abstract We develop an omitted variable bias framework for sensitivity analysis of instrumental variable estimates that naturally handles multiple side effects (violations of the exclusion restriction assumption) and confounders (violations of the ignorability of the instrument assumption) of the instrument, exploits expert knowledge to ...

Variability in Heparin Sensitivity of APTT Reagents
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1986Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) is the most widely used coagulation test for monitoring heparin therapy. This study quantitates the differences in heparin sensitivity of seven commercially available APTT reagents, using plasma samples obtained from 20 subjects. The reagents studied were Actin, Actin FS, Automated APTT, Cephotest, Coagachek

Variably protease-sensitive prionopathy
2018Variably protease-sensitive prionopathy (VPSPr), originally identified in 2008, was further characterized and renamed in 2010. Thirty-seven cases of VPSPr have been reported to date, consistent with estimated prevalence of 0.7-1.7% of all sporadic prion diseases.

Ecosystem sensitivity to climate variability
Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005Assessments of ecosystem sensitivity to climate variability are mostly qualitative. However, understanding the complex interactions between climate and ecosystems requires a quantitative analysis. In the present study, we developed a quantitative approach to assess ecosystem sensitivity to climate variability.

Sensitivity Analysis for Dependent Variables*
Decision Sciences, 2000Decision analysts use sensitivity analysis to identify influential variables, to determine which input variables to model stochastically, and to characterize scenarios that could affect a change in the rank ordering of the alternatives. A frequently recommended sensitivity analysis technique is “one‐way” sensitivity analysis, which determines a ...

Interferometric surface mapping with variable sensitivity
Applied Optics, 1978In the photolithographic process, presently employed for the production of integrated circuits, sets of correlated masks are used for exposing the photoresist on silicon wafers. Various sets of masks which are printed in different printing tools must be aligned correctly with respect to the structures produced on the wafer in previous process steps ...

Variable Receptor Affinity and Tissue Sensitivity
Blood Vessels, 2008Vascular smooth muscle sensitivity to norepinephrine (NE), measured by contractile responses in vitro, varied in different arteries of the rabbit and also in the same vessels in other species. There was a good correlation between variation in the affinity of NE for the α1-adrenoceptor and tissue sensitivity.
