Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Conditional density estimation: an application to the Ecuadorian manufacturing sector [PDF]

open access: yes
This note applies conditional density estimation as a visual method to present results. The proposed method is illustrated by application to a firm-level manufacturing data set from Ecuador in 2002.Density ...

General Dynamic Equivalent Modeling of Microgrid Based on Physical Background

open access: yesEnergies, 2015
Microgrid is a new power system concept consisting of small-scale distributed energy resources; storage devices and loads. It is necessary to employ a simplified model of microgrid in the simulation of a distribution network integrating large-scale ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Defining the true sensitivity of culture for the diagnosis of melioidosis using Bayesian latent class models. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: Culture remains the diagnostic gold standard for many bacterial infections, and the method against which other tests are often evaluated.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Confidence intervals and P-values for meta-analysis with publication bias [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study publication bias in meta-analysis by supposing there is a population (y, sigma) of studies which give treatment effect estimates y - N(theta, sigma(2)). A selection function describes the probability that each study is selected for review.

Pattern statistics on Markov chains and sensitivity to parameter estimation

open access: yesAlgorithms for Molecular Biology, 2006
Background: In order to compute pattern statistics in computational biology a Markov model is commonly used to take into account the sequence composition. Usually its parameter must be estimated.
