Extracerebral deep-body cold sensitivity in the Pekin duck
American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1981Pekin ducks, in which cerebral cold sensitivity is negligible, were submitted to general body cooling at warm, thermoneutral, and cold ambient temperature (Ta) with an intestinal thermode. In some animals, hypothermia was enhanced by additional hypothalamic cooling that suppressed cold defense.

The influence of body-ownership cues on tactile sensitivity
Cognitive Neuroscience, 2011To some extent the bodies of others and one's own body are represented differently in the human brain. This study investigates how these different body representations are used during tactile perception. Two types of cues--purely visual cues (pictures of hands) and multisensory cues (equivalent to the rubber hand illusion paradigm)--were used to ...

Body Fat, Sweetness Sensitivity, and Preference: Determining the Relationship
Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research, 2012The study was conducted to evaluate whether body fat is a better measure than body mass index (BMI) for determining the relationship between body size and sweetness perception and preference.Seventy-two women were recruited and separated into two groups.

Temperature sensitivity of the body surface over the life span
Somatosensory & Motor Research, 1998Detection thresholds to warming and cooling were measured in 13 regions of the body in 60 adults aged between 18 and 88 years. From these thresholds were constructed maps of thermal sensitivity homologous to body maps of spatial acuity (in the older literature two-point discrimination), long known to the somatosensory scientist.

Anticipating sensitizes the body
Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences, 2007With emotional motivation the organism prepares the body to obtain a goal. There is an anticipatory sensitization of the sensory systems in the body and the brain. Presynaptic facilitation of the sensory afference in the spinal cord is probably involved.

i_mBODY Lab Demonstrates: Body Transformation Experiences with Multisensory Wearables
Proceedings of the Extended Abstracts of the 2026 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing SystemsBody perception is plastic, continuously shaped by multisensory and sensorimotor cues that technology can leverage to influence body experience, behavior, and emotion. This demo presents Body Transformation Experiences (BTEs) enabled through multisensory
