Microwave induced thermally assisted solvent-based bonding of biodegradable thermoplastics: an eco-friendly rapid approach for fabrication of microfluidic devices and analyte detection

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
There is an increasing interest in low-cost, facile and versatile thermoplastic bonding for microfluidic applications that can be easily transitioned from laboratory prototyping to industrial manufacturing. In addition, owing to the surge in the usage of

SURVEY ACCURACY AND SPATIAL RESOLUTION BENCHMARK OF A CAMERA SYSTEM MOUNTED ON A FAST FLYING DRONE [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2020
Many drones are used to obtain high resolution imagery. Subsequent 3D object point derivation from images of these systems is an established technique.

Direct hemoglobin measurement by monolithically integrated optical beam guidance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a concept for optical beam guidance by total internal reflection (TIR) at V-grooves as retro reflectors which are monolithically integrated on a microfluidic "lab-on-a-disk".

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Dual Resonator MEMS Magnetic Field Gradiometer

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Accurate knowledge of the spatial magnetic field distribution is necessary when measuring field gradients. Therefore, a MEMS magnetic field gradiometer is reported, consisting of two identical, but independent laterally oscillating masses on a single ...

Enhancing smart environments with mobile robots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Sensor networks are becoming popular nowadays in the development of smart environments. Heavily relying on static sensor and actuators, though, such environments usually lacks of versatility regarding the provided services and interaction capabilities ...

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

UV-Curable Polymer Microhemisphere-Based Fiber-Optic Fabry–Perot Interferometer for Simultaneous Measurement of Refractive Index and Temperature

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
A fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer based on UV-curable polymer microhemisphere is proposed and demonstrated. The polymer microhemisphere is formed by adhering and solidifying a liquid microdroplet of UV-curable adhesive to the end face of a cleaved

Parallelization of chip-based fluorescence immuno-assays with quantum-dot labelled beads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper presents an optical concept for the read-out of a parallel, bead-based fluorescence immunoassay conducted on a lab-on-a-disk platform. The reusable part of the modular setup comprises a detection unit featuring a single LED as light source ...
