Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

High output power low temperature polysilicon thin-film transistor boost converters for large-area sensor and actuator applications

open access: yesnpj Flexible Electronics
Large-area electronic sensor and actuator arrays are suitable systems for thin-film transistor (TFT) technology with numerous applications from consumer electronics to healthcare. Considerable effort is being spent to make these arrays a reality. However,

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Antenna-coupled TES bolometers used in BICEP2, Keck array, and SPIDER

open access: yes, 2015
We have developed antenna-coupled transition-edge sensor (TES) bolometers for a wide range of cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarimetry experiments, including BICEP2, Keck Array, and the balloon borne SPIDER. These detectors have reached maturity and

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Advances in the application of sensor arrays based on nanozymes

open access: yesBiosensors and Bioelectronics: X
As efficient biocatalysts, enzymes can catalyze various reactions under mild conditions, and have excellent substrate specificity and selectivity. However, the high cost of preparation and difficulty in recovery of natural enzymes have seriously hindered

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Two-Dimensional Direction of Arrival Estimation for Improved Archimedean Spiral Array With MUSIC Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) estimation capability of sensor arrays is greatly influenced by geometric configuration of arrays. We proposed a new type 2-D planar array, improved Archimedean spiral array (IASA), to arrange sensor elements and enhance the ...

Sparse Sensing with Semi-Coprime Arrays

open access: yes, 2018
A semi-coprime array (SCA) interleaves two undersampled uniform linear arrays (ULAs) and a $Q$ element standard ULA. The undersampling factors of the first two arrays are $QM$ and $QN$ respectively where $M$ and $N$ are coprime. The resulting non-uniform

Pillar-array based optical sensor

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
An optical microcavity based on pillar arrays has been fabricated in Si/SiO(2) material system. Transmission measurement was taken and a quality factor as high as 27,600 was observed. This cavity was tested for sensing applications by immersing into optical fluids with accurate refractive indices.
