An energy-efficient routing protocol for Hybrid-RFID Sensor Network

open access: yes, 2011
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems facilitate detection and identification of objects that are not easily detectable or distinguishable. However, they do not provide information about the condition of the objects they detect.

Robust wireless sensor network performance analysis

open access: yes, 2011
We show that a wireless sensor network system can be designed specifically for a set of complex deployment requirements and constraints. Among the design issues tackled are: low power design which copes with arctic winters and adaptive behaviour to cope ...

Wireless Powered Communication Networks Assisted by Backscatter Communication

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
This paper proposes a backscatter-assisted wireless powered communication network that includes a hybrid access point and multiple users. In conventional wireless powered communication networks with only harvest-then-transmit (HTT) mode, urgent data ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

A shared sensor network infrastructure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An increasing number of sensor networks have been deployed to monitor a variety of conditions and situations. At the same time, more and more applications are starting to rely on the data from sensor networks to provide users with (near) real-time ...

Fusing target information from multiple views for robust visual tracking

open access: yesIET Computer Vision, 2014
In this study, the authors address the problem of tracking a single target in a calibrated multi‐camera surveillance system with information on its location in the first frame of each view. Recently, tracking with online multiple instance learning (OMIL)

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

A utility-based adaptive sensing and multi-hop communication protocol for wireless sensor networks

open access: yes, 2000
This article reports on the development of a utility-based mechanism for managing sensing and communication in cooperative multisensor networks. The specific application on which we illustrate our mechanism is that of GlacsWeb.
