The advancement in wireless communications and electronics has enabled the development of low-cost sensor networks. The sensor networks can be used for various application areas (e.g., health, military, home). For different application areas, there are different technical issues that researchers are currently resolving.

This paper deals with a smart-transducer wireless network for industrial applications. Thanks to its high popularity, a solution based on IEFE802.11 (also known as wireless fidelity or Wi-Fi) is experimentally investigated. A master-slave network organization is proposed to allow several sensors to be connected with generic Wi-Fi devices like PCs; a ...

The majority of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques have been developed in recognition of the fact that the presence of damage alters structural properties (stiffness, density, damping ratio, energy dissipation, etc.), and hence alters the captured dynamic signatures of the structure such as Lamb wave ...

As sensor nodes are embedded into physical environments and becoming integral parts of our daily lives, sensor networks will become the important nerve systems that monitor and actuate our physical environments. We define the process of monitoring the status of a sensor network and figuring out the problematic sensor nodes sensor network diagnosis ...

Sometimes sensors need to be assembled in response to an emergency. Such assemblage might take a variety of forms. At one extreme, sensors might converge on a single point. At the opposite extreme, sensors might fill in the position of a lattice. This paper looks at solutions in between these two extremes, in which sensors converge on several different

With a continuing improvement in the capabilities of intelligence per unit of energy, we should reconsider the organisation of sensor networks. We contend that solutions should be model-free, locally based and need to be highly dynamic in nature. Here we propose an approach inspired by simulated annealing.

In this paper, we present the sensor network-on-a-chip (SNOC) paradigm for designing robust and energy-efficient systems-on-a-chip (SOC). In this paradigm, computation in the presence of nanometer non-idealities such as process variations, leakage and noise is viewed as an estimation problem. Robust statistical signal processing theory is then employed

Interacting with sensor networks
IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2004. Proceedings. ICRA '04. 2004, 2004We develop distributed algorithms for sensor networks that respond by directing a target (robot or human) through a region. The sensor network models the event levels sensed across a geographical area, adapts to changes, and guides a moving object incrementally across the network.
