Behavioral, computational, and neuroimaging studies of acquired apraxia of speech [PDF]
A critical examination of speech motor control depends on an in-depth understanding of network connectivity associated with Brodmann areas 44 and 45 and surrounding cortices.

ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by certain difficulties in emotion‐related processing. Recent research using electroencephalography (EEG) to measure somatosensory evoked potentials during emotion perception has shown reduced embodiment of emotional expressions in autistic compared to neurotypical individuals, independently from

Stage-dependent role of interhemispheric pathway for motor recovery in primates
Whether and how the non-lesional sensorimotor cortex is activated and contributes to post-injury motor recovery is controversial. Here, we investigated the role of interhemispheric pathway from the contralesional to ipsilesional premotor cortex in ...

IntroductionThis study investigated how healthy, right-handed younger adults utilize the typically suppressed ipsilateral sensorimotor cortices [particularly, the dorsal premotor cortex (PMd), primary motor cortex (M1), primary somatosensory cortex (S1),

The role of self-touch experience in the formation of the self [PDF]
The human self has many facets: there is the physical body and then there are different concepts or representations supported by processes in the brain such as the ecological, social, temporal, conceptual, and experiential self.

Is implicit motor imagery a reliable strategy for a brain computer interface? [PDF]
Explicit motor imagery (eMI) is a widely used brain computer interface (BCI) paradigm, but not everybody can accomplish this task. Here we propose a BCI based on implicit motor imagery (iMI).

Oscillatory interactions between sensorimotor cortex and the periphery
Field potential recordings from motor cortex show oscillations in the beta-band (approximately 20 Hz), which are coherent with similar oscillations in the activity of contralateral contracting muscles. Recent findings have revised concepts of how this activity might be generated in the cortex, suggesting it could achieve useful computation.

ABSTRACT The etiopathogenesis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) encompasses complex interactions between genetic and environmental risk factors. The high prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders in autistic individuals has propelled a growing interest in the possible involvement of gut dysbiosis in ASD pathogenesis.

Six challenges for embodiment research
20 years after Barsalou's seminal perceptual symbols paper (Barsalou, 1999), embodied cognition, the notion that cognition involves simulations of sensory, motor, or affective states, has moved in status from an outlandish proposal advanced by a fringe ...
