Sensory Stimulation of Designers

2013
This chapter examines the role of designers’ own experience and perception in the process of designing new products, based on an experimental approach with designers. So far, most design studies have investigated the role of visual stimuli and visual modality in the design process.

Sensory Stimulation for Inhibition of Epileptic Seizures

Epilepsia, 1989
Summary: Simple acoustic stimuli were delivered at the onset of absence seizures in 23 investigations of 19 patients. In 79 of 139 observations, the stimulation promptly inhibited the seizure. The most effective inhibition was achieved in the first 3 s of the absence seizure.

Modes of Sensory Stimulation

Physiotherapy, 2001
Summary Four modalities commonly used with the aim of relieving pain were surveyed in a literature review. Some researchers reported good results, but on the whole the studies were inadequate and there was little evidence to show that any of the four techniques had significant analgesic effects.

The central effects of rhythmic sensory stimulation

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1949
1. 1. Records obtained during photic stimulation may be described in terms of the following components, any or all of which may be present at any one time, or from time to time. 1.1. A. A series of dicrete elementary evoked responses, e.g. figures 1B and 8. 1.2. B.

Control of Sensory Fields by Stimulation of Hypothalamus

Science, 1966
Stimulation of the cat's hypothalamus, which elicits attack, also establishes sensory fields for two reflexes related to biting. Touching a perioral region leads to head movement, bringing the stimulus to the mouth. Touching the lip-line leads to jaw opening. The size of the fields depends on the intensity of stimulation.

Bimodal sensory stimulation-induced seizures

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 1987
A curious case is reported in which the patient, a young woman, exhibited convulsive seizures when approaching closely to a television. The visual and acoustic stimulation did not change her EEG, whereas simultaneous stimulation with both the modalities induced bilateral and symmetrical high-voltage spikes (with their diffusion) that led to a ...

The Effectiveness of Sensory Stimulation for Geropsychiatric Inpatients

The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 1984
Abstract The objectives of this study were (a) to explore the effectiveness of sensory stimulation therapy under controlled conditions, and (b) to ascertain the short-term effectiveness after treatment ceased. Thirty geropsychiatric patients were divided into three treatment condition groups: sensory stimulation, staff attention, and ...

Sleep and sensory stimulations

2021
We sleep about 30 % of our lifetime and this mysterious behavior that leads the individual to an unconsciousness state is indispensable to the survey of all species. Sleep is not a homogeneous state of passive rest but is composed of two different sub-states; the Non-rapid eyes movements (NREM) sleep and the REM sleep. These states are characterized by
