Unfolding a sequence of sensory influences and interactions in the development of functional brain laterality

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2023
Evidence of sensory experience influencing the development of lateralized brain and behavior is reviewed. The epigenetic role of light exposure during two specific stages of embryonic development of precocial avian species is a particular focus of the ...

Ruff Morning? The Use of Environmental Enrichment during an Acute Stressor in Kenneled Shelter Dogs

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
The length of stay for some animals has increased with the recent reduction of animals euthanized in US shelters and animal control facilities. Research examining the effectiveness of different types of enrichment on buffering the effects of acute daily ...

Knowledge of Mothers on Multisensory Intervention for Preterm Babies: A Hospital-based Cross-sectional Study from Mangaluru, India [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Multisensory intervention for preterm babies is developmentally appropriate and has the capacity to integrate information from different senses-Auditory, Tactile, Visual, and Vestibular (ATVV). Involving mothers in the intervention may help

Skin sensory stimulation.

open access: yesJournal of Society of Cosmetic Chemists of Japan, 1989
The sensory irritation such as biting appears after application of cosmetics. This irritation is the passing stimulation without inflammation. We investigated many cosmetic materials, and made researches on the substance and mechanism of this stimulation. In the results, the sensitivity among the population showed the individual differences.

Effectiveness of Resistance Intradialytic Exercise Compared to Aerobic Intradialytic Exercise for Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis commonly experience reduced physical function, fatigue, poor sleep quality, and impaired health‐related quality of life. Intradialytic exercise has been proposed as a non‐pharmacological strategy to improve these outcomes.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The effect of sensory stimulation on apnea of prematurity

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University Medical Sciences, 2022
The study aims to assess the effect of sensory stimulation on apnoea among premature newborns.Thirty preterm newborns that were diagnosed with apnoea of prematurity, had a gestational age between 32 and 34 weeks, had low birth weight, and were appropriate for gestational age from 1200 to 2000 g were included in this prospective randomized study ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Effect of Remote Sensory Noise on Hand Function Post Stroke

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
Hand motor impairment persists after stroke. Sensory inputs may facilitate recovery of motor function. This pilot study tested the effectiveness of tactile sensory noise in improving hand motor function in chronic stroke survivors with tactile sensory ...
