Reconfigurable Logic‐in‐Memory Operations Enabled by Triple‐Gated Feedback Field‐Effect Transistors for Area‐Efficient Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable logic‐in‐memory cell composed of triple‐gated feedback field‐effect transistors implements multiple combinational logic functions within a single configuration. By utilizing program gates as dynamic input terminals, the proposed cell performs full adder, full subtractor, 2‐to‐1 multiplexer, and 4‐to‐2 encoder operations without ...

Perceived Intensity and Discrimination Ability for Lingual Electrotactile Stimulation Depends on Location and Orientation of Electrodes

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2017
Malfunctioning sensory systems can severely impact quality of life and repair is not always possible. One solution, called sensory substitution, is to use another sensory system to bring lost information to the brain. This approach often involves the use

Electrified Damage in Motion Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The electrified damage in motion systems is a fundamental framework presenting the degradation pathway arising from the coupling of electrical energy transport with mechanical contact and interfacial chemistry. The framework positions electrified damage as a distinct degradation regime with unique characteristic surface morphologies and failures of ...

Printed Integrated Logic Circuits Based on Chitosan‐Gated Organic Transistors for Future Edible Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Edible electronics needs integrated logic circuits for computation and control. This work presents a potentially edible printed chitosan‐gated transistor with a design optimized for integration in circuits. Its implementation in integrated logic gates and circuits operating at low voltage (0.7 V) is demonstrated, as well as the compatibility with an ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Are supramodality and cross-modal plasticity the yin and yang of brain development? From blindness to rehabilitation.

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2016
Research in blind individuals has primarily focused for a long time on the brain plastic reorganization that occurs in early visual areas. Only more recently, scientists have developed innovative strategies to understand to what extent vision is truly a ...

Hot‐Film and Calorimetric Methods With Transient Heating for Measurement of High Biofluid Flow Rate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Accurate measurement of biofluid flow rate is vital for clinical diagnostics. We propose a transient heating strategy using short thermal pulses and peak temperature tracking to enhance the flow sensitivity of the hot‐Film and calorimetric methods. Simulations show how optimal heating time maximizes sensitivity across flow rates.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...
