Sensor Adaptation and Development in Robots by Entropy Maximization of Sensory Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A method is presented for adapting the sensors of a robot to the statistical structure of its current environment. This enables the robot to compress incoming sensory information and to find informational relationships between sensors.

Interdisciplinary Translations: Sensory Perception as a Universal Language [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper investigates sensory perception's pivotal role as a universal communicative bridge across varied cultures and disciplines, and how it manifests its value in the study of media art, human computer interaction and artificial intelligence. By analyzing its function in non-verbal communication through interactive systems, and drawing on the ...

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Simulating development in a real robot: on the concurrent increase of sensory, motor, and neural complexity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We present a quantitative investigation on the effects of a discrete developmental progression on the acquisition of a foveation behavior by a robotic hand-arm-eyes system.
