Current reproductive effort shapes the response to infection in a passerine bird

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study fills a much‐needed gap and connects the body temperature response to infection with the framework of reproductive investment and trade‐offs between current reproduction and self‐maintenance. Thus, we think that our study highlights a general, unexplored connection between physiology and life‐history theory.

Temporal niche differentiation often leads to priority effects rather than coexistence: Lessons from a marine midge

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
When organisms use similar resources but at a different time, it is not obvious whether they can divide their temporal niches in a coexistence promoting manner or of something else should happen. This study shows that priority effects are a likely, but not self‐evident, outcome.

A global review of Procellariiform flight height, flight speed and nocturnal activity: Implications for offshore wind farm collision risk

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Through systematic review and meta‐analysis, we present a database of mean flight parameter values and uncertainty for Procellariiform species and flight groups. Flight speed and nocturnal flight parameter values are ready for use in offshore wind farm collision risk models; but flight height results are too uncertain for useful parameterization.
