Planning at the Phonological Level during Sentence Production

Journal of Psycholinguistic Research, 2006
In two picture-word interference experiments we examined whether phrase boundaries affected how far in advance speakers plan the sounds of words during sentence production. Participants produced sentences of varying lengths (short determiner + noun + verb or long determiner + adjective + noun + verb) while ignoring phonologically related and unrelated ...

Models of Sentence Production

1988
The goal of a theory of sentence production is to characterize the mental processes involved in the transformation of ideas into speech, and to state the variables that affect these processes. Given the paucity of experimental studies in this area—in particular because of the difficult problem of controlling the input to the production process—all ...

$L_t$-Horn sentences and reduced products

Publicationes Mathematicae Debrecen, 1996
The authors establish a topological version of a classical theorem proved by H. J. Keisler. In particular, it is shown that under the continuum hypothesis an \(L_t\)-sentence is preserved under reduced products of topological spaces if and only if it is equivalent in basic structures to an \(L_2\)-Horn sentence.

The Social Production of Sentencing

2019
Developed in the shadow of legal formalism, depictions of sentencing discretion are dominated by images of autonomous individualism, in which the individual judge ‘owns’ the property of discretion, unless restricted by official legal rules. I argue instead for an approach which understands sentencing case ‘facts’ as necessarily and inescapably typified

Closed-class immanence in sentence production

Cognition, 1989
The closed-class hypothesis asserts that function words play a privileged role in syntactic processes. In language production, the claim is that such words are intrinsic to, identified with, or immanent in phrasal skeletons. Two experiments tested this hypothesis with a syntactic priming procedure.
