The Role of Syntax in Sentence Recall
Language and Speech, 1976The transformational complexity of a sentence has been alleged to affect its memorability. Using unprompted free recall, this was found to be true only of the question transformation. This effect could not be explained in terms of the confounded variables of imageability and concreteness, which did not correlate with performance in this study ...

In this chapter, we move to the third part of the book, which focuses on structuring the speech. This chapter introduces the issue by identifying problems in an example of a student speech. It then outlines principles of structuring within the sentence in English.

On the syntax of sentences-in-progress
Language in Society, 1991ABSTRACTThis article describes how it could be possible for two participants engaged in conversation to jointly produce a single syntactic unit such as a sentence. From an inspection of sentence types that are achieved through such joint production, it was determined that participants have available a single utterance construction format.

Syntax of either in either… or… sentences
Natural Language & Linguistic Theory, 2021I propose an analysis of either in either… or … sentences that relates to a broader generalization about the syntax of all focus-sensitive operators. Handwritten sentence recognition: from signal to syntax
Proceedings of the 12th IAPR International Conference on Pattern Recognition (Cat. No.94CH3440-5), 2002This paper describes a system dedicated to online handwritten sentence recognition. The prototype is made up of two basic processors. The first controls the data acquisition, pentip trace segmentation, letter identification. The second aims at identifying and correcting the words candidates by integrating syntactic and lexical information.

The Syntax of Conditional Sentences

Predication and specification in the syntax of cleft sentences
2013This paper reviews the differences between predicational and specificational copular sentences in the realm of (pseudo-)cleft constructions, and proposes an analysis which treats the it of specificational it-clefts as a pro-predicate that inverts with its subject in the course of the syntactic derivation.
