Ultra‐Fast Non‐Volatile Resistive Switching Devices with Over 512 Distinct and Stable Levels for Memory and Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A materials and device design concept that comprises a self‐assembled ultra‐thin epitaxial ion‐transporting layer, an amorphous oxide overcoat oxygen‐blocking layer, and a partial filament formed during an electroforming step is proposed for low‐current multilevel resistive switching devices.

Exploiting emoticons in sentiment analysis

open access: yesProceedings of the 28th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2013
As people increasingly use emoticons in text in order to express, stress, or disambiguate their sentiment, it is crucial for automated sentiment analysis tools to correctly account for such graphical cues for sentiment. We analyze how emoticons typically convey sentiment and demonstrate how we can exploit this by using a novel, manually created ...

Development of a Novel, All‐Aromatic High Tensile Modulus Liquid Crystalline Polyimide for Fused Filament Fabrication Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, high tensile modulus, fully aromatic thermotropic liquid crystalline polyimide (LCPI) with better solvent resistance and thermal stability is synthesized. Tensile specimens are fabricated using both injection molding and FFF processes, accomplished via lower viscosity enabled by the LC phase.

A Physically‐Based Machine Learning Approach Inspires an Analytical Model for Spider Silk Supercontraction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Starting from an experimental database, a physically‐based machine learning approach is used to gain new insights into spider silk supercontraction. These insights inspire a microstructure‐based analytical model that quantitatively predicts supercontraction based on protein primary structure properties. New experiments to further elucidate the physical

TripleSent: a triple store of events associated with their prototypical sentiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The current generation of sentiment analysis systems is limited in their real-world applicability because they cannot detect utterances that implicitly carry positive or negative sentiment.

Super‐Tough Silk: The Potential of Knots in Evolved Spiders

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The toughness of spider silk can be further significantly enhanced if spiders evolved the –currently absent/undiscovered– ability to tie knots in their silk. The results on 393 spiders suggest toughness increments by one or two orders of magnitude and thus a new perspective on how knotting can serve as a key innovation in spider evolution and in ...

A Clustering Analysis of Tweet Length and its Relation to Sentiment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Sentiment analysis of Twitter data is performed. The researcher has made the following contributions via this paper: (1) an innovative method for deriving sentiment score dictionaries using an existing sentiment dictionary as seed words is explored, and (2) an analysis of clustered tweet sentiment scores based on tweet length is performed.

Biointerfacing with AgBiS2 Quantum Dots for Pseudocapacitive Photostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that AgBiS2 quantum dots exhibit unique photoinduced pseudocapacitive charge transfer properties, enabling efficient light‐to‐electrical energy conversion. These quantum dots facilitate enhanced light absorption and transduction when integrated with ZnO nanowires, which serve as an effective charge transport medium.
