Planar Separators

SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, 1994
A separator in a graph \(G\) is a partition \((A,B,C)\) of \(V(G)\) such that \(| A|\), \(| B|\leq {2\over 3}| V(G)|\) and no vertex in \(A\) is adjacent to any vertex in \(B\); its order is \(| C|\). The authors give a short proof of a theorem of Lipton and Tarjan that for any planar graph with \(n\) vertices there is a separator of order \(\leq 2 ...

Symphyseal Separation

Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2005
Separation of the pubic symphysis up to 1 cm during pregnancy and delivery occurs frequently. This report presents a woman who experienced a large symphyseal separation.Following delivery, a 35-year-old primipara complained of hip and groin pain associated with leg movement. An anterior-posterior pelvic X-ray showed a pubic separation of 9.5 cm and a 3-

Separation Anxiety

Pediatrics In Review, 1995
Fear in reaction to danger potentially leads to life-saving "fight or flight." Anxiety is intrinsic to fear, and the young infant experiences anxiety during the earliest inevitable separations from caretakers. Over time, a child learns to experience anxiety in anticipation of fear, whether this fear is based on a true impending danger or a separation ...

Minimal Separators

Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1999
AbstractA separator of a connected graph G is a set of vertices whose removal disconnects G. In this paper we give various conditions for a separator to contain a minimal one. In particular we prove that every separator of a connected graph that has no thick end, or which is of bounded degree, contains a minimal separator.
