Adaptive control of separated flows
2003 European Control Conference (ECC), 2003Two adaptive feedback control methods, a new adaptive integral controller used to control plants with output saturation and dead-time and the well-known extremum seeking feedback are employed to control detached flows. For the experimental validation, conducted in a wind tunnel, two different flow configurations, a backward-facing step and a diffuser ...

Air separation control technology
Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2006Achieving high performance process control (HPPC) requires that the control system operate the plant at optimal efficiency over the full range of steady state and dynamic conditions. Air separation processes present particular challenges because of their energy intensive nature and demanding production schedules.

Copyright Control and Separating Systems
2003Separating systems have earlier been shown to be useful in designing asynchronous sequential circuits, finite automata and fingerprinting. In this paper we study the problem of constructing (s,1)- separating systems from codes and designs.

Under certain conditions, wall-bounded flows separate. To improve the performance of natural or man-made flow systems, it may be beneficial to delay or advance this detachment process. The present article reviews the status and outlook of separation control for both steady and unsteady flows.

A Separation Principle for Distributed Control
Proceedings of the 45th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006A linear quadratic control problem is considered, where several different controllers act as a team, but with access to different measurements. The state feedback solution obtained in a previous paper is here extended to output feedback and a separation principle is proved.

INTEGRAL CONTROL ACTION AND SEPARATED FEEDBACK CONTROL
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1982Abstract Integral control action is identified with the function of state-estimation in separated stochastic control. It follows that the separated controller structure could provide a basis for designing practical sub-optimal controllers which could be implemented using available on-line digital computers.

Separation of Estimation and Control for Decentralized Stochastic Control Systems
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1978Abstract A sufficient condition is given for a separation of estimation and control in decentralized discrete-time stochastic control systems. It is shown that the one-step delay sharing system is a special case satisfying this condition. A counterexample is given, however, to the well-known conjecture that the separation will hold for the more-than ...

Energy saving control in separate meter in and separate meter out control system
Control Engineering Practice, 2018Abstract With the demand for energy efficiency in electro-hydraulic servo system (EHSS) increasing, the separate meter in and separate meter out (SMISMO) control system draws massive attention. In this paper, the SMISMO control system was decoupled completely into two subsystems by the proposed indirect adaptive robust dynamic surface control (IARDSC)

Separable matrices and minimum complexity controllers
2017 IEEE 56th Annual Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2017We ask for simple controllers to stabilize linear systems. Thereby, we focus on what we call separable controllers, i.e., controllers which can be factorized into a Kronecker product of two smaller matrices. It is shown that a certain class of linear systems can be stabilized by such controllers.
