Thermodynamic efficiency of thermoacoustic mixture separation
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002The acoustic power loss in the thermoacoustic mixture-separation process is derived, including the contributions due to a nonzero gradient in concentration. The significance of the gradient-dependent term is discussed. The limiting thermodynamic efficiency of the separation is calculated.

In the previous chapter we have examined various models for predicting the velocity distributions in cyclones. In this chapter we wish to first present a brief discussion of the issues, and to then present some of the literature models available for computing cyclone separation efficiency.

Separation efficiencies in hydrophilic interaction chromatography
Journal of Chromatography A, 2008Hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) is important for the separation of highly polar substances including biologically active compounds, such as pharmaceutical drugs, neurotransmitters, nucleosides, nucleotides, amino acids, peptides, proteins, oligosaccharides, carbohydrates, etc.

Microchip Devices for High-Efficiency Separations
Analytical Chemistry, 2000We have fabricated a 25-cm-long spiral-shaped separation channel on a glass microchip with a footprint of only 5 cm x 5 cm. Electrophoretic separation efficiencies for dichlorofluoroscein (DCF) on this chip exceeded 1,000,000 theoretical plates and were achieved in under 46 s at a detection point 22.2 cm from the injection cross.

Efficient Charge Separation in Multidimensional Nanohybrids
Nano Letters, 2011We report unidirectional charge transfer in multidimensional nanohybrids, consisting of a quantum dot, an electronically active molecular linker, and a carbon nanotube. After covalent attachment to the nanotube, only emission consistent with the negatively charged quantum dot exciton ion rather than the neutral exciton is observed, showing nearly ...

Separation Power and Separation Efficiency of Pulse Cascades
Separation Science and Technology, 2011Pulse cascades are non-conventional and may suit the flexible demand for stable isotopes varying in varieties and quantities. The separation power in pulse cascades is evaluated, and the definitions and the expressions of the separation efficiency are given respectively.

Separation of alkaloids using radial chromatography and its separation efficiency
Chinese Journal of Chromatography, 2018The radial thin layer chromatography (RTLC) is a chromatographic method for the simple, rapid and efficient separation of samples from the center along the radial direction. Simple device was assembled to separate the alkaloids contented in Zhusha Anshen Pills (ZSASP).

Color‐separating backlight for improved LCD efficiency
Journal of the Society for Information Display, 2008Abstract— A large part of the light generated in a backlight is usually absorbed in the color filters of the liquid‐crystal display. A new backlight system that uses a grating to split the white light into different colors and a lens array to focus this light onto the pixels is presented.

Efficient Implementation of Separability Criteria
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2003Entanglement is a valuable resource in quantum information processing and thus its detection and characterization is an important procedure. We review some of the criteria for separability and provide an efficient and physically realizable method by which entanglement may be detected within the “distant labs” paradigm.

I/O-Efficient Planar Separators
SIAM Journal on Computing, 2008We present I/O-efficient algorithms for computing optimal separator partitions of planar graphs. Our main result shows that, given a planar graph $G$ with $N$ vertices and an integer $r > 0$, a vertex separator of size O$(N / \sqrt{r})$ that partitions $G$ into O$(N / r)$ subgraphs of size at most $r$ and boundary size O$(\sqrt{r})$ can be computed in ...
