Efficient Rare Earth Separation Technology

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2014
Reactive Innovations, LLC and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) have demonstrated an innovative improved process for extracting and separating light rare earth metals (La, Ce, Sm, Nd, Pr) from solution. Rare earth metals are valued for their unique magnetic, optical and catalytic properties.

Energy Efficient Hybrid Separation Processes

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2006
Distillation accounts for a large percentage of the energy used in the manufacturing industry. As energy costs rise, hybrid separation strategiesstrategies that combine one or more separation techn...

Membrane separations and energy efficiency

Journal of Membrane Science, 2018
Abstract Membrane processes are usually considered to offer very promising performances in terms of energy efficiency for industrial separations. This statement particularly holds for homogeneous gas and liquid separations which are traditionally performed thanks to unit operations based on a phase change (distillation, evaporation, condensation ...

Tests and efficiencies of separate regression models

Biometrika, 1978
SUMMARY The results of Cox (1961, 1962) on tests of separate families of hypotheses are used to develop tests for some log linear regression models. The consequences of using one model when another is true are studied. The probability limits and asymptotic efficiencies of the estimators of the regression coefficients when using a false model in ...

Collection efficiency of cyclone separators

AIChE Journal, 1981
AbstractBased on terLinden's (A. J. terLinden, “Investigations into Cyclone Dust Collectors,” IME Proc., 160, 233, 1949) experimental observations, a three‐region model is proposed for the fluid flow in a cyclone. Within each region, turbulence is assumed to promote mixing of the suspended particles.

High Efficient Color-Separation Backlight

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
To replace the color filter in the conventional display, we describe a color-separation backlight consisting of three modules: the light collimation module, the light guide and the micro-lens array. With angularly positioned color LEDs, the displaying method requires only two two-color filter layers to display color images.

Research for efficient separation

2001
The Separation Technology group at VTT Energy, which is one of the nine business units of Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), develops equipment and methods to separate the valuable substances from industrial processes and side streams efficiently and with optimised energy use.Special attention is focused on filtration, power ultrasound ...

Bank profiling and separation efficiency

Minerals Engineering, 2014
Abstract Various authors have discussed methods of optimising a bank of flotation cells. In this paper, JKSimFloat is used to investigate the effect of recovery profiling and mass pull profiling (i.e., mass distribution to cells in a bank) on the separation efficiency between floatable minerals and against entrained gangue.

Efficient algorithms for bichromatic separability

ACM Transactions on Algorithms, 2006
A closed solid body separates one point set from another if it contains the former and the closure of its complement contains the latter. We present a near-linear algorithm for deciding whether two sets of n points in ℝ 3 can be separated by a prism, near-quadratic ...

Efficient microfluidic particle separation arrays

Applied Physics Letters, 2009
Microfluidic particle separation arrays are capable of passive sorting of microparticles or cells by size while avoiding blockage. Despite the usefulness of boundaries for concentration and parallel integration of arrays, separation efficiency is severely degraded in the areas adjacent to the boundaries due to the aberrant fluid flow found there.
