Dielectrophoretic separation of cells: Continuous separation

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1995
AbstractDielectrophoresis is the movement of particles in non‐uniform alternating and direct current (AC, DC) electric fields. When nonuniform electric fields are created between microelectrodes, cells will redistribute themselves around the electrodes, the force holding the cells in place dependig on the local electric field and on the electrical ...

A separability parameter for dielectrophoretic cell separation

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2013
In this study, a separability parameter is introduced to determine the selection of optimum operating parameters for DEP separation of a cell pair. The separability parameter is defined as a function of cells’ Clausius–Mossotti (CM) factors. T‐cell leukemia Jurkat and mouse melanoma B16 cells are tested to validate the separability parameter.

Physical separation in the workplace: Separation cues, separation awareness, and employee motivation

European Management Journal, 2015
Physical separation is pervasive in organizations, and has powerful effects on employee motivation and organizational behaviors. However, research shows that workplace separation is characterized by a variety of tradeoffs, tensions, and challenges that lead to both positive and negative outcomes.

ESDI: “Separable but not separate”?

Air & Space Europe, 2000
The development of a European Security and Defence Identity that is “separable but not separate” from NATO took a new turn at the European Union's Helsinki summit in December 1999, However, the EU's plans to absorb soon the Western European Union and to create a rapid reaction corps by 2003 raise a tangle of membership issues, as well as questions of a

Phase separation, charge separation and biogenesis

Biosystems, 1981
The current view of bioenergetics postulates transmembrane charge separation as a primary mechanism of energy storage and transformation. Using that bioenergetic view we examine possible methods of photon driven transduction in primordial vesicles.

Separable Codes

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2012
Multimedia fingerprinting is an effective technique to trace the sources of pirate copies of copyrighted multimedia information. Separable codes can be used to construct fingerprints resistant to the averaging collusion attack on multimedia contents. In this paper, we investigate -separable codes from a combinatorial point of view.

The separation procedure

Seminars in Pediatric Surgery, 2015
The various stages of the separation are carefully planned but despite this, variations which will change the schedule of the procedure may exist. In general the operation commences on the opposite side from the main procedure and then the twins are turned for the remainder of the operation.
