Structural Hydroxyls in Sepiolites

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1975
AbstractThree sepiolite clays studied showed evidence for the presence of structural hydroxyl groups in three to five different environments depending on the composition of the clay. A 3720 cm−1 i.r. frequency is shown to be characteristic of SiOH at crystal edges which are very abundant in sepiolites.

Effects of sepiolite on crystallization behaviors and properties of sepiolite/polyoxymethylene composites

Journal of Polymer Research, 2020
For filler-polymer systems, the ultimate importance of interfacial interactions between fillers and polymers lies in improving morphological developments and properties of composites. In this work, sepiolite fiber (SEP)/polyoxymethylene (POM) is formulated through melt extrusion processing, with the aim of promoting the crystallization and overall ...

Interaction of Pyridine Derivatives with Sepiolite

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2002
In this study, the adsorption behavior of pyridine derivatives, i.e., 2-aminopyridine and 2,2'-bipyridyl, onto sepiolite, a natural clay mineral, has been investigated by bottle adsorption and IR spectroscopic techniques. The results indicate that 2-aminopyridine and 2,2'-bipyridyl molecules adsorb onto sepiolite through hydrogen bonding of the amino ...

Adsorption of anionic surfactants onto sepiolite

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2007
Anionic surfactants constitute the main ingredients of detergents and a number of surfactant formulations used in a spectrum of diverse industries. The aim of this study is to examine the amenability of natural sepiolite to the adsorption of anionic surfactants, sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). Adsorption isotherms

Reprint of Study of spatial distribution of sepiolite in sepiolite/polyamide6,6 nanocomposites

Applied Clay Science, 2016
Abstract The enhancement of the technical properties of a Clay/Polymer Nanocomposite (CPN) is related to the homogeneity and dispersion of the filler within the polymer matrix. In this work, samples of pure polyamide 6,6 (PA66) and reinforced PA66 with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 wt.% of sepiolite have been studied.

The Utilization of Sepiolite in Landfill Liners

Environmental Technology, 2005
In this study, sepiolite and natural soil-added sepiolite mixtures were studied to find out whether they can be used as compacted landfill liner, as they are an economic alternative to the other compacted day liners or not. Geotechnical and physico-chemical properties of sepiolite and sepiolite mixtures, containing 25% and 50% natural soil by weight ...

Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Study of Sepiolite and Partially Dehydrated Sepiolite

Clays and Clay Minerals, 2002
AbstractThe assignment of the 29Si CP/MAS-NMR spectrum of naturally-occurring sepiolite clay was re-examined using 29Si COSY and 1H-29Si HETCOR pulse sequences. Each of the three main resonances at −92.1, −94.6 and −98.4 ppm has been attributed to one of the three pairs of equivalent Si nuclei in the basal plane, and the resonance at −85 ppm to Q2(Si ...

A sepiolite modified conducting polymer based biosensor

Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2013
A conducting polymer modified with sepiolite was utilized in the construction of a highly sensitive and fast amperometric cholesterol biosensor. In this study a monomer; (10,13-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)dibenzo[a,c]phenazine (PHED)) was synthesized and then its polymer was coated on a graphite electrode by electropolymerization to ...

Sepiolite: Properties and Uses

1984
Abstract The structure and properties of sepiolite are reviewed. Surface properties, such as porosity and sorption are detailed, as well as dehydration and thermal behaviour. Industrial applications of sepiolite are based on: a) Sor-btive properties; b) rheological properties; c) catalytic properties; The Theological behaviour of sepiolite suspensions,
