Study of spatial distribution of sepiolite in sepiolite/polyamide6,6 nanocomposites

Applied Clay Science, 2016
Abstract The enhancement of the technical properties of a Clay/Polymer Nanocomposite (CPN) is related to the homogeneity and dispersion of the filler within the polymer matrix. In this work, samples of pure polyamide 6,6 (PA66) and reinforced PA66 with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 wt.% of sepiolite have been studied.

Adsorption of cationic polyacrylamide onto sepiolite

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2006
The adsorption of PAM onto sepiolite from aqueous solutions has been investigated systematically as a function of some parameters such as calcination temperature of sepiolite, pH, ionic strength and temperature. The adsorption of cationic polyacrylamide (PAM) increases with pH from 5.50 to 11.00, temperature from 25 to 55 degrees C and ionic strength ...

Folding in Sepiolite Crystals

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1975
AbstractFibrous sepiolite crystals derive much of their commercial value from their molecular size channels and grooves. The crystals fold upon drying and these channels and grooves are lost. A model for the folding and unfolding of the crystals is presented.

Ionic conduction in sepiolite

Solid State Ionics, 1993
Abstract The solid state reaction between sepiolite and LiCl at 200°C gives intersalation compounds. The lithium composites obtained, x LiCl-SEP ( x =2, 4, 6 and 8), keep the sepiolite framework but the presence of the halide in its channels causes a gradual breakdown with the increase of temperature. At low temperatures, the polarizing character of

Sepiolite–Palygorskite Occurrences in Turkey

2011
Abstract Sepiolite–palygorskite occurrences and deposits in Turkey can be classified as sedimentary (marine and lacustrine), hydrothermal and pedogenic types based on their geological settings and mineralogical features. Marine types are formed within the evaporative clayey–sandy-carbonate rocks of Upper Cretaceous–Lower Miocene in the shallow ...

Structural Fluorine in Sepiolite

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1990
AbstractSepiolite from Vallecas-Vicálvaro, Spain, contains 1.3% fluorine. Laser microprobe mass spectrometry of this sepiolite suggests the presence of fragments of (SiO2)nOMgF and (SiO2)nOMgOH, which are typical of the sepiolite structure. During thermal dehydroxylation, the fluorine in this sepiolite is removed simultaneously with OH groups at about ...

ESR studies of sepiolites

Applied Magnetic Resonance, 2000
The electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra for each beige and brown sepiolites from Polatli-Ankara, Turkey, a clay mineral of Mg8Si12O30(OH)4(OH2)4(H2O)8, at 77 K have their own single characteristic peak atg ≈ 1.99, which begins to anneal from 437 and 536°C, respectively. The sextet lines of Mn2+ were also observed in addition to two peaks (g = 4.4 and

Microfibrous Chitosan−Sepiolite Nanocomposites

Chemistry of Materials, 2006
We report in this paper the synthesis and characterization of a new class of biopolymer−clay nanocomposites based in the assembling of chitosan to sepiolite, which is a natural magnesium silicate showing a microfibrous texture. CHN and ICP/AES chemical analyses, XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, 13C solid-state NMR, LT-SEM, and thermal analysis have been ...

Structural Hydroxyls in Sepiolites

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1975
AbstractThree sepiolite clays studied showed evidence for the presence of structural hydroxyl groups in three to five different environments depending on the composition of the clay. A 3720 cm−1 i.r. frequency is shown to be characteristic of SiOH at crystal edges which are very abundant in sepiolites.

Effects of sepiolite on crystallization behaviors and properties of sepiolite/polyoxymethylene composites

Journal of Polymer Research, 2020
For filler-polymer systems, the ultimate importance of interfacial interactions between fillers and polymers lies in improving morphological developments and properties of composites. In this work, sepiolite fiber (SEP)/polyoxymethylene (POM) is formulated through melt extrusion processing, with the aim of promoting the crystallization and overall ...
