Molecular typing of Acinetobacter baumannii by automated repetitive-sequence-based PCR
Acinetobacter baumannii has been increasingly reported as a significant causative organism of various nosocomial infections. Here we describe three different outbreaks of multidrug resistant A.

Genomic variations define divergence of water/wildlife-associated Campylobacter jejuni niche specialists from common clonal complexes [PDF]
Although the major food-borne pathogen Campylobacter jejuni has been isolated from diverse animal, human and environmental sources, our knowledge of genomic diversity in C.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Limitations of variable number of tandem repeat typing identified through whole genome sequencing of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis on a national and herd level [PDF]
Background: Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP), the causative bacterium of Johne’s disease in dairy cattle, is widespread in the Canadian dairy industry and has significant economic and animal welfare implications. An understanding of the

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Sequence based typing for BoLA-DQA1 alleles in Indian zebu and its crossbred populations
Polymorphism in the major histocompatibility complex of the bovine, which is referred to as bovine leukocyte antigens (BoLAs), was intensively investigated for identifying marker(s) for bovine diseases and immunological traits.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Association of HLA-C*07:359 with HLA-A, -B, and -DRB1 alleles in Taiwanese
Objectives: It is thought that Taiwanese indigenous people were the “first people” to populate Taiwan (Formosa) having been there for over 5000 years, preceding the Dutch colonization (from 1624 to 1662) and Spanish colonization (from 1626 to 1642 ...
