open access: yesParasite, 1999
Among the phlebotomine sandflies collected in a lime-stone cave of 21 degrees 42' N, 10 degrees 23' E and 700 m above sea level on 14th August, Mengyuan, Mengla County, Xishuangbanna District, Yunnan Province, two males of the group fallax of subgenus Sergentomyia are quite different in morphology with those hitherto recorded in the literature.

Chandipura Virus Resurgence in India: Insights Into Diagnostic Tools, Antiviral Development, and Public Health Implications

open access: yesGlobal Health, Epidemiology and Genomics, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background: Chandipura virus (CHPV) is an emerging rhabdovirus primarily affecting pediatric populations in India, causing acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) with high mortality rates. First identified in 1965, CHPV has resurfaced in several outbreaks, the most recent being in 2024, with significant public health implications.

Modeling Spatial Distribution of Sergentomyia minuta (Diptera: Psychodidae) and its Potential Implication in Leishmaniasis Transmission in Morocco

open access: yesJournal of Arthropod-Borne Diseases, 2019
Background: Leishmaniases are parasitic diseases caused by Leishmania species and transmitted by the bite of sand flies. The genus Lutzomyia and Phlebotomus of sand flies are known to be the responsible vector for transmitting almost all Leishmania ...

Morphological and Molecular Techniques as an Integrative Approach to Identifying Sandfly (Diptera: Psychodidae) Vectors of Leishmaniasis in the Jazan and Asir Regions, Southwestern Saudi Arabia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Zoology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Sandflies are the primary vectors of leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease of major public health concern in Saudi Arabia. While morphological identification remains the standard for species classification in the Jazan and Asir regions, distinguishing closely related taxa is often challenging and time‐consuming.

Toscana Virus RNA in Sergentomyia minuta Flies

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
To the Editor: Toscana virus (TOSV) (family Bunyaviridae, genus Phlebovirus) is an arthropodborne virus transmitted by sandflies. Reports of infections in travelers, clinical research, and epidemiologic studies have shown that TOSV affects the central nervous system and is a major cause of meningitis and encephalitis in Mediterranean countries in which

A cross‐sectional study on phlebotomine sand flies in relation to disease transmission in the Republic of Kosovo

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 38, Issue 4, Page 573-585, December 2024.
We provide the currently known sand fly distribution and species diversity in Kosovo, including a COI barcode inventory and distribution maps. Phlebotomus neglectus and Ph. perfiliewi were identified to be the predominant species and environmental analyses depicted two geographical groups of sand flies in Kosovo, with notable differences between the ...
