Ordovician series and stages in Chinese stratigraphy: steps toward a global usage

Alcheringa: An Australasian Journal of Palaeontology, 2001
The first Chinese Ordovician series was erected by Lee & Chao (1924). Since then, many regional Ordovician series and stage names have been established and mostly published in Chinese. The present study is a review of these regional units with a discussion of their definitions and correlation to the international standard. Among them, the Ichang series,

Stratigraphy and deformation history of the Jurassic coal bearing series in the Eastern Mecsek (Hungary)

International Journal of Coal Geology, 2012
Abstract Based on integrated interpretation of well-log and core data of 60 fully cored deep drillings and 2D seismic profiles, sequence stratigraphic and structural development models have been elaborated for the “Maza-South–Varalja-South” coal exploration site and for the Northern Imbricates, Eastern Mecsek, SW Hungary.

THE STRATIGRAPHY OF THE KEUPER SERIES IN SOUTHERN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society, 1961
Summary Some seventy-one shallow boreholes have been drilled in southern Nottinghamshire by the National Coal Board in recent years. These, together with earlier borings and surface exposures, have provided new information on the Keuper succession, on faulting, and on the depth and distribution of the superficial solution zone, from which ...

Stratigraphy of the Knife Lake series in the Kekequabic-Ogishkemuncie area, Minnesota

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1939
Detailed studies of the “Knife Lake series” in the Vermilion district of northeastern Minnesota in the vicinity of Kekequabic and Ogishkemuncie lakes reveal two series of continental sediments separated by an unconformity of considerable magnitude. The sediments of the Knife Lake series, in contrast to the Lower Huronian series of the south shore of ...

Status of the Talladega series in southern Appalachian stratigraphy

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1936
THE TALLADEGA SERIES DISTRIBUTION The Talladega series has been traced by the writer from Alabama, where it is typically exposed, across northwest Georgia, into North Carolina and Tennessee. The series occupies a belt, trending northeast, 300 miles in length and 1 to 25 miles in width. The belt is separated in most places from the fossiliferous rocks

The stratigraphy and palaeontology of the 'Keuper' Series of the central Midlands of England

Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London, 1970
A reappraisal of the stratigraphical status of the formations constituting the series traditionally termed 'Keuper' in central England is given, based on palaeontological and sedimentological evidence. The 'Keuper' Sandstone is a fluvial facies representing a sub-aerial deltaic environment and is of upper Scythian and Anisian age.

Sequence Stratigraphy of the Cambrian and Ordovician Series in the Illizi Basin (Algeria)

2014
The Cambro–Ordovician sediments of the Southeast Saharan Platform show a facies evolution from continent to platform rather than from platform to basin and, for that reason, faciological stratigraphy (Homewood et al. 1992) has been applied. The genetic sequences are limited at their bases and tops by Maximum Flooding Surfaces (MFSs).

Sequence stratigraphy and micropaleontology of the Triassic series from the southern part of Tunisia

Journal of African Earth Sciences (and the Middle East), 1993
Abstract The Triassic series in the southern part of Tunisia, only known from the oil exploration wells in the Kirchaou area (sandy series from Early Scythian to Ladinian) and in its Djeffara/Dahar-North outcrops (alternating series from Ladinian to Rhaetian) is now subdivided into 10 Depositional Sequences (DS) sensu Vail et al.

Strontium isotope stratigraphy of the Comanchean Series in north Texas and southern Oklahoma

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 2003
Pioneering studies in north Texas and adjacent Oklahoma played an important role in the paleontologic and stratigraphic development of the Cretaceous in North America. We have used the results from 135 strontium isotope analyses from fossils and rocks collected from 43 sites to define the "middle" Cretaceous path of seawater 8 7 Sr/ 8 6 Sr during ...
