Series Controllers in Distribution Systems - Facilitating Increased Loading

Proceedings of the 41st International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2006
Medium voltage distribution feeders are generally not loaded to their nominal rating because of redundancy considerations. During repair of a faulted feeder the loads will be switched to another feeder to limit the customer interruption time. This spare capacity needs to be reserved on each of the concerned cables.

Optimal Assignment of Components to Parallel-Series and Series-Parallel Systems

Operations Research, 1991
This paper deals with the problem of assigning components to parallel-series (PS) and series-parallel (SP) systems so as to maximize the system's reliability. We assume that any component can be assigned to any position of the system and the reliability of component j is ripj if it is assigned to position i.

Optimal allocation of components in parallel–series and series–parallel systems

Journal of Applied Probability, 1986
This paper shows how majorization and Schur-convex functions can be used to solve the problem of optimal allocation of components to parallel-series and series-parallel systems to maximize the reliability of the system. For parallel-series systems the optimal allocation is completely described and depends only on the ordering of component reliabilities.

Optimal Repair of a Series System

Operations Research, 1978
A single repairman maintains a series system whose components have exponential failure and repair distributions. It is desired to assign the repairman to maximize the expected total discounted working time or average working time for the system. Whenever the failure rates of all components are equal, the time to repair the system from any initial ...

System analysis and synthesis via orthogonal polynomial series and fourier series

Mathematics and Computers in Simulation, 1985
This paper provides a review of some recent results on solving systems analysis and synthesis problems via orthogonal polynomial series and Fourier series. The results are unified in the sense that a unique approach is followed namely that of reducing the problems at hand (viz.

Fixed series compensation monitoring system

2008 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America, 2008
Fixed Series Compensation (FSC) employs capacitors to compensate the inductive reactance of transmission lines, being a highly effective and economical means of improving power transfer. A Fixed Series Compensation Monitoring System has as objective the knowledge of the actual physical state of this FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) system and ...
