Prevalence of Antimicrobial Resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae in the South African Populations: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Surveillance Studies

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 4, August 2025.
Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates in South Africa exhibit > 50% resistance to first‐line antibiotics, with rising carbapenem resistance. Urgent, targeted interventions and genomic surveillance are essential to curb the spread of multidrug‐resistant strains and preserve treatment efficacy.

Immune Control of AIDS Progression by an Adenovirus‐Based Therapeutic Vaccination in Acute Simian Immunodeficiency Virus‐Infected Macaques

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2025.
This proof‐of‐concept study confirms that the GM‐CSF‐mediated adenovirus‐based SIV vaccine delivery strategy in combination with ART enhances antiviral immunity during acute infection. This strategy delays viral rebound and disease progression following ART by maintaining specific T cell responses and reducing immune activation.

Seasonal Host Shifts for Legionella Within an Industrial Water‐Cooling System

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 4, August 2025.
Taxonomic profiling for Legionella (the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease) and protist hosts within a water cooling tower showed seasonal peaks for Legionella that were associated with taxonomic shifts in the protist community. Legionella frequency was tracked using amplicon sequencing (blue line) and serogroup profiling (red line).
