Gonorrhoea in Aberdeen: A Serovar Analysis

Scottish Medical Journal, 1994
The serotyping of gonococcal isolates has enabled detailed studies of the epidemiology of gonorrhoea in different geographical areas. This study reports the patterns of infection found in 1992 in Aberdeen and relates these to a variety of clinical parameters.

Pathogenicity and Serovar-Specific Hemagglutinating Antigens of Haemophilus paragallinarum Serovar B Strains

Avian Diseases, 1990
The pathogenicity and presence of serovar-specific hemagglutinating (HA) antigens of Haemophilus paragallinarum serovar B reference strains 0222 and Spross and field isolates 24268 and 24317 were investigated. Chickens challenged with all strains except strain 0222 showed clinical signs of infectious coryza.

Proposed pathway for the biosynthesis of serovar-specific glycopeptidolipids in Mycobacterium avium serovar 2

Microbiology, 2003
Members of theMycobacterium aviumcomplex are distinguished by the presence of highly antigenic surface molecules called glycopeptidolipids (GPLs) and the oligosaccharide portion of the serovar-specific GPL defines the 28 serovars. Previously, the genomic region (ser2) encoding the enzymes responsible for the glycosylation of the lipopeptide core to ...

Serovars of plesiomonas shigelloides

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, 1994
Among 391 P. shigelloides strains, 330 were typable and found to belong to 43 O serovars. The most frequent O serovars were O17 (23%), O32 (7%), O12 (4.5%) and O5, O18 and O44 (3.8% each). The majority of the serovars represented, with almost 300 strains, were sporadically found in very distant countries of three continents (Europe, Asia, America ...

Chlamydia trachomatis Serovars in Buenos Aires, Argentina: Predominance of Serovar E in Ophthalmia Neonatorum

Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 2007
Chlamydia trachomatis infections are the most prevalent sexually transmitted bacterial infections in the world and a woman infected during pregnancy can transmit C. trachomatis to her infant who is then at an increased risk of developing eye and lung complications such as conjunctivitis and pneumonia.

leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo vaccination against leptospira interrogans serovar balcanica infection

New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1981
Abstract Extract Sir, — Leptospira interrogans serovar balcanica is now recognised as a widespread infection among opossums in New Zealand (2) and the possibility of domestic stock acting as accidental hosts has recently been demonstrated. (3) With the recent development of hardjo vaccines (1) (4) for controlling infection with this serovar in the ...

Emergence of Salmonella enterica Serovar Potsdam as a Major Serovar in Waterfowl Hatcheries and Chicken Eggs

Avian Diseases Digest, 2011
Salmonellosis is a common food-borne illness in humans caused by Salmonella-contaminated poultry and their products. In hatcheries, 110 Salmonella isolates were identified, mostly from first enrichment, and few from delayed enrichment. The Salmonella prevalence in goose and duck hatcheries was higher when measured by four multiplex PCR methods than by ...

A neutral sugar is responsible for serovar specificity of the antigenic determinant of Leptospira interrogans serovar canicola.

The Japanese journal of veterinary research, 1994
To provide information on the chemical structures of antigenic determinants of leptospira, glycolipids of Leptospira interrogans serovar canicola strain Hond Utrecht IV (Ut-IV) and its antigenic variant selected in the presence of a serovar-specific monoclonal antibody were compared physicochemically.

SUSCEPTIBILITY OF LEPTOSPIRA SEROVARS TO ANTIMALARIAL AGENTS

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2004
Leptospirosis has recently been described to cause concomitant infection with malaria. Only doxycycline has proven to have chemoprophylactic and therapeutic efficacy for both malaria and leptospirosis. To assess whether other traditional antimalarial agents have antileptospiral activity, we performed broth microdilution susceptibility testing of 16 ...
