Pedogenesis of high-mountain soils from Serra da Mantiqueira, Brazil

open access: yesREVISTA CIÊNCIA AGRONÔMICA, 2022
ABSTRACT In the Serra da Mantiqueira region the pedogenetic studies contribute to both the understanding of past events and supporting the conservation of natural resources. This study aimed to characterize the soils from the Minas Gerais high-mountains region to evaluate the influence of paleoenvironmental conditions on pedogenesis. Five profiles were

Meta‐analysis of the long‐term stratigraphic evolution of rifted margin basins: The GeoDyNamical Analysis approach applied to the South Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 35, Issue 3, Page 898-931, June 2023., 2023
We show that the timing of the long‐term retrograding mega‐sequence driven by lithosphere thinning depends on the deformation style and magma production. Along oblique margins of the Equatorial Segment, deepening is initiated during syn‐rift because their narrow crustal thinning style favours rapid tectonic subsidence surpassing sediment supply.

Beyond Carbon: The Contributions of South American Tropical Humid and Subhumid Forests to Ecosystem Services

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 60, Issue 4, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Tropical forests are recognized for their role in providing diverse ecosystem services (ESs), with carbon uptake the best recognized. The capacity of tropical forests to provide ESs is strongly linked to their enormous biodiversity. However, causal relationships between biodiversity and ESs are poorly understood.

Peripheral Budding Following Range Expansion Explains Diversity and Distribution of One-Sided Livebearing Fish. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Ecol
ABSTRACT Peripheral budding occurs when populations diverge from a widespread parental population and speciate along its periphery, facilitated by the interaction of ecological and geographic barriers. This phenomenon results in species that contrast in range size and ecological tolerance and can lead to confounding phylogenies.

Thermo‐Compositional Structure of the South American Platform Lithosphere: Evidence of Stability, Modification, and Erosion

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 23, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Constraints on the structure of cratonic lithosphere are essential to improve our understanding of craton formation, evolution and long‐term stability. Here, we perform a joint inversion for the thermal and compositional structure of the mantle lithosphere below the South America Platform, using Rayleigh wave group velocities, elevation, and ...

Unlocking the evolution of abdominal specializations in Luciuranus fireflies (Coleoptera, Lampyridae)

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 51, Issue 6, Page 708-723, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Understanding the evolution of genitalic traits and their co‐evolution between sexes is at the core of Evolutionary Biology. Cross‐species reproductive trait co‐variation can be the outcome of hybrid avoidance and/or sexual selection. Although the outcome of these two phenomena will look similar, they yield distinct patterns of species co ...
