Colonisation resistance in the sand fly gut:Leishmania protects Lutzomyia longipalpis from bacterial infection [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Phlebotomine sand flies transmit the haemoflagellate Leishmania, the causative agent of human leishmaniasis. The Leishmania promastigotes are confined to the gut lumen and are exposed to the gut microbiota within female sand flies.

Regulation of the Surfactant Serrawettin W2 in Serratia Sp. Strain SCBI [PDF]
A novel Serratia sp (termed SCBI) forms an association with nematodes (South African Caenorhabditis briggsae) that were isolated by bait trapping in the greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella.

Serratia marcescens: an unusual pathogen associated with snakebite cellulitis
This study reports a case of Serratia marcescens cellulitis following a snakebite in a 50-year-old woman. The bite was on the dorsum of the right hand with symptoms of envenomation. She developed swelling and cellulitis with tissue necrosis.

Severe Osteomyelitis and Septic Arthritis due to Serratia marcescens in an Immunocompetent Patient
Septic arthritis and osteomyelitis due to Serratia marcescens in immunocompetent patients without risk factors are extremely rare. Here, we report a case of septic arthritis and severe adjacent osteomyelitis of the tibia due to Serratia marcescens in a ...
