Multi-server queueing systems with cooperation of the servers

Annals of Operations Research, 2008
In this paper, we consider an N-server queueing model with homogeneous servers in which customers arrive according to a stationary Poisson arrival process. The service times are exponentially distributed. Two new customer’s service disciplines assuming simultaneous service of arriving customer by all currently idle servers are discussed.

The Server array: A Scalable Video Server Architecture

1996
The server array is a novel video server architecture based on partitioning each video over multiple server nodes, thereby achieving perfect load balancing for any demand distribution. We discuss the main design issues, compute the buffer requirements at the client, and compare the reliability of different video server architectures.

Server-Based Dynamic Server Selection Algorithms [PDF]

open access: possible, 2002
Server selection is an important problem in replicated server systems distributed over the Internet. In this paper, we study two server selection algorithms under a server-based framework we have developed. These algorithms utilize server load and network performance information collected through a shared passive measurement mechanism to determine the ...

The architecture of Diagram Server

Proceedings of the 1990 IEEE Workshop on Visual Languages, 2002
A support tool for systems that manage a diagrammatic interface, called the Diagram Server, is discussed. It offers a tailorable interface independent from the system that uses it, and can manage objects through their diagrammatic representations. It supports multiple representations of the same object, and is largely independent from the graphic ...

Architecture of data mining server: DATAFRONT/Server

IEEE SMC'99 Conference Proceedings. 1999 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (Cat. No.99CH37028), 2003
The data mining server, whose architecture is described in this paper, automatically extracts from a database some interesting features in the form of IF THEN rules. The architecture is a Web-based client-server architecture: the server side of the system consists of a mining engine, a Web-page-generating engine, a mining scenario, a database, and a ...

The Media Server

2014
The concept behind a media server is its ability to store all of your media files—music and movies—in one central location, and then stream them from that location to whatever device in your house you choose. These days, almost every media device (and some non-media devices) can hook up to a network—if not the Internet, then at least your home network.

Media servers, broadcast servers: the same or different? [PDF]

open access: possibleIEE Colloquium on Video File Servers: Masters or Slaves?, 1996
In the not too distant future, the role of video tape in broadcasting will be limited to acquisition and archiving. Most other functions from editing to playout will be disc based. To date, applications of disc drives in broadcasting have been limited to offline editing (compressed) or online at full quality in purpose designed post production systems.

A multi-server queueing model with server consultations

European Journal of Operational Research, 2014
Abstract We consider a multi-server queueing model in which the arrivals occur according to a Markovian arrival process. One of the servers, henceforth referred to as the main server, offers consultation to fellow servers (referred to as regular servers) apart from serving the customers. A regular server may request a consultation only when serving a

The Server

2014
Applications typically run on servers which are quite different from user workstations. Servers can be physical or virtual. Administrators need to know what hardware and software is on the application servers.
