Rotation Experiment with Sesamum

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1974
An experiment conducted to find out the most suitable and remunerative crop rota- tion involving the Sesamum crop indicates that adopting rotational cropping fetches higher yield from Sesamum than by cropping it repeatedly. Sesamum responds better when rotated with groundnut then with Cholam or Cumbu, Crop rotation fetches high yield and maximum ...

Mixed Cropping with Sesamum

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1974
An experiment undertaken to study the comparative merits of pure and mixed cropping of Sesamum with either Cholam, Cumbu, groundnut or redgram shows that mixed cropping of Sesamum is better than pure cropping. The yield of Sesamum incre- asos when raised with redgram but when raised with Cholam or Cumbu or even ground. nut the effect is to the contrary.

Chromosome Number of Sesamum laciniatum Klein

Nature, 1948
Sesamum laciniatum is a wild species which is reported to occur with another wild species, S. prostratum Retz., in south India1. The two species resemble each other closely in their morphological characters except for the fact that the leaves of S. laciniatum are more deeply pinnatifid than those of S. prostratum.

GENETIC VARIABILITY IN SESAMUM

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1990
Variability, heritability, genetic advance, phenotypic correlation, geno- typic correlation, environmental correlation and coheritability were estimated in 28 varieties of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.). High heritability with high genetic advance was observed in yield per plant, high heritability and low genetic advance in 50% flowering, and low ...

Lipase activity of two seed-borne fungi of sesamum (Sesamum indicum Linn.)

Folia Microbiologica, 1983
Macrophomina phaseolina andPhoma nebulosa secreted lipase which varied with the medium.M. phaseolina produced more lipase thanP. nebulosa. Sesamum seed meal caused stimulation of lipase production. The lipase secreted by both organisms showed maximum activity at pH 5.O. The optimum temperature for activity of lipase secreted byM.

Anthrasesamones from roots of Sesamum indicum

Phytochemistry, 2003
Three anthraquinones, named anthrasesamones A, B and C, were isolated from the roots of Sesamum indicum, and their respective structures were determined to be 1-hydroxy-2-(4-methylpent-3-enyl)anthraquinone, 1,4-dihydroxy-2-(4-methylpent-3-enyl)anthraquinone and 2-chloro-1,4-dihydroxy-3-(4-methylpent-3-enyl)anthraquinone on the basis of spectroscopic ...

Taxonomic studies on insect fauna associated with Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.)

Journal of Entomological Research
AbstractRoving survey carried out in 3 major sesamum growing mandals in Srikakulam district revealed the presence of two major leafhopper species viz., Hishimonus phycitis (Distant) and Orosius orientalis (Mastumura). The line diagrams of important male genitalia structures along with colour photographs were also provided in detail for these species ...

SESAMUM PHYLLODY DISEASE

Sesamum phyllody is a very important disease of sesamum caused by phytoplasma which affects mostly the floral organs of 0the plant. The floral organs are modified into leaf like structures and hence the yield is directly affected by this disease. Sesamum phyllody is a systemic disease and is transmitted by leafhoppers, Orosius albicinctus (Dist.) and ...

GENETIC VARIATION AND GENOTYPE-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION IN SESAMUM (Sesamum indicum. L.)

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1985
The genetic parameters viz.. genotypic and phenotypic variations, genotypic and phe- notypic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance as percentage of mean were assessed from nine varieties of sesamum. Genotype x environment interaction was not significant for height up to first capsule, number of branches, number of capsule on main ...
