There Is Always a Bigger Fish. Determinants of Power Perceptions in Swiss Biodiversity Policy

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) views power as crucial in policy processes, but the nature of coalition power, its determinants, and how to empirically measure it remain understudied. In this article, we use a mixed method approach and social network analysis to explore power relationships in the biodiversity policy subsystem in ...

Addressing environmental misperceptions for nature recovery

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract A poorly understood and systemic challenge to global conservation agreements is shifting baseline syndrome (SBS), wherein people misperceive the extent to which nature has changed. This can diminish societal expectations for nature recovery. We broadened the conceptual framing of SBS beyond the more common elements of nature loss to include ...

Integrated demographic strategies are more strongly associated with variation in conspecific density dependence than single traits in tropical tree seedlings

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 2, February 2026.
Species‐specific conspecific negative density dependence (CNDD) varied widely among tropical tree species. CNDD was strongest in fast‐growing species and tall, long‐lived pioneers, weakly related to most functional traits except wood density and strongest in rare species. These results show that integrated life‐history strategies explain CNDD variation
