Review of the analytical techniques for sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpene lactones

Journal of Chromatography A, 2002
In this paper the analytical techniques of about the last 2 decades for sesquiterpenes including their lactones are reviewed. For sesquiterpenes, methods like GC, GC-EI-MS, GC-CI-MS, GC-MS-MS, GC-FT-IR, GC-UV, GC-AES, 13C-NMR, PY-GC-MS, HPLC, HPLC-TSP, SFE, SFC, SFC-UV are available, GC combined with MS is the most widespread.

Sesquiterpenes from an Endophytic Aspergillus flavus.

Journal of Natural Products, 2019
Eight new cadinene-sesquiterpenes (1-8), one eudesmane-sesquiterpene (9), and three known compounds (10-13) were isolated from an endophytic fungus, Aspergillus flavus, which was isolated from a toxic medicinal plant, Tylophora ovata.

Sesquiterpenes

2010
This chapter reviews recent advances in elucidating the identification and biosynthesis of several classes of sesquiterpenes from a variety of plant and microbial systems. The generation of the sesquiterpene skeletons for key linear and cyclic classes of sesquiterpenes, and the subsequent decoration of these scaffolds by hydroxylation/oxidation are ...

African Elephant Sesquiterpenes

Journal of Natural Products, 1999
GC-MS analysis of extracts from temporal gland secretions of an African elephant has revealed the presence of several farnesol-related sesquiterpenes. Among these are (E)-2, 3-dihydrofarnesol (3), a bumblebee pheromone not seen before in mammals, and a rare component of a Greek tobacco, drimane-8alpha, 11-diol (4), never observed before in an animal.

Studies in sesquiterpenes—XVI

Tetrahedron Letters, 1959
The structure, previously assigned to zerumbone, has been found to be untenable. The ketone has been shown to be monocyclic containing three ethylenic linkages, and has been further correlated with humulene. Results from ozonolysis, and base-catalysed cleavage allowed the compound to be formulated as 2,6,9,9-tetramethyl-2,6,10-cyclo-undecatrien-1-one.

Sesquiterpene lactone allergy

American Journal of Contact Dermatitis, 1996
Sesquiterpene lactones are a large, diverse group of chemicals found in several plant families that cause allergic contact dermatitis. The biological, botanical, allergenic, and structural significance of sesquiterpene lactones is explored as well as the clinical characteristics of cutaneous reactions.
