Occurrence and characteristics of frost ribs in sessile oak stands

2023
Frost ribs (frost cracks) are common wood defects in oak stands. Tree trunks with frost ribs cannot be used as high−quality industrial wood. Considering the great economic importance of oak for forest management, the objectives of this study were to determine the proportion of trees with frost ribs in the stand, to characterize frost ribs, to compare ...

Sessile and pedunculate oaks in mixed plantings

1999

Acidophilic forests of sessile oak in northern Croatia

2009
Past surveys of forest vegetation in Croatia (VUKELIĆ 1991, RAUŠ et al. 1992, VUKELIĆ & BARIČEVIĆ 1996, BARIČEVIĆ 2002, TRINAJSTIĆ 2008, VUKELIĆ et al. 2008) classify acidophilic forests of the order Quercetalia roboris petraeae, with sessile oak (Quercus petraea Liebl.) as the edifier, in three associations: Querco-Castanetum I.

Functional adaptation of common beech and sessile oak to drought

2022
This research was conducted on four-year-old saplings of common beech and sessile oak originating from two mature mixed beech-oak stands from the Republic of Croatia (RH), which are characterized by similar orographic and edaphic (chemical composition and mechanical soil structure) conditions.

Sessile oak seeding: sowing depth and soil moisture interactions

1998
A high tree percent is needed to reduce production costs of Sessile oak seedlings. This purpose led us to establish two nursery trials at Guémené-Penfao on the effect of sowing depth, in 1993 and in 1994. Results show that emergence rates differed considerably among sowing depths, but trends were reversed between years.

Health status of sessile oak (Qurcus petraea Liebl.) in Croatia

2000
The health condition of forests in Croatia has been monitored from year 1987 at 87 plots of 16x16 km network (Level 1) and 7 permanent intensive monitoring plots (Level 2). This is carried out in accordance with the methods of the International Cooperative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests (ICP Forests).
