Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A precise mass function in the excursion set approach

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2017
In the present paper, using previous results from Del Popolo papers, we show how the mass function evolution can be obtained in the framework of a spherical collapse model, which has been modified to take account of dynamical friction, the cosmological ...

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

The Dittert's function on a set of nonnegative matrices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1990
Let Kn denote the set of all n×n nonnegative matrices with entry sum n. For X∈Kn with row sum vector (r1,…,rn), column sum vector (c1,…,cn), Let ϕ(X)=∏iri+∏jcj−perX. Dittert's conjecture asserts that ϕ(X)≤2−n!/nn for all X∈Kn with equality iff X=[1/n]n×n.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

A Combinatorial, Strongly Polynomial-Time Algorithm for Minimizing Submodular Functions

open access: yes, 2000
This paper presents the first combinatorial polynomial-time algorithm for minimizing submodular set functions, answering an open question posed in 1981 by Grotschel, Lovasz, and Schrijver.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only
