Multi-channel active noise cancellation using the DSP56001 (digital signal processor) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The authors report on the performance of a portable active noise cancellation (ANC) system based around a PC hosted 20-MHz Motorola DSP56001 processor with a four-channel analog input/output (I/O) board connected to the real world via standard consumer ...

Clinical Validation of Plasma p‐217tau in Neurological Diseases

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma p‐217tau is a minimally invasive but specific biomarker for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its disease specificity remains to be clinically evaluated. We validated the reliability of the p‐217tau biomarker in 12 other neurological diseases.

Random digital encryption secure communication system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The design of a secure communication system is described. A product code, formed from two pseudorandom sequences of digital bits, is used to encipher or scramble data prior to transmission.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Hydraulic Average of Multiple Tap Sets to Improve Performance of Venturi Flowmeters With Upstream Disturbance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Venturi flowmeters have been used to measure flow in piped systems for over 100 years (Finnemore & Franzini, 2006). There has been much research on the performance of Venturi flowmeters and for that reason they have become popular flowmeters used in various municipal and industrial applications.

Decoding water quality across urban and rural dental clinics: insights from an observational study

open access: yesFrontiers in Oral Health
IntroductionAdherence to drinking water standards in dental treatments is a critical measure for preventing nosocomial infections. This study aimed to evaluate water quality from dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) and clinic taps over eight months in urban ...

Identifying Relevant Anti-Science Perceptions to Improve Science-Based Communication: The Negative Perceptions of Science Scale

open access: yesSocial Sciences, 2018
Science communicators and scholars have struggled to understand what appears to be increasingly frequent endorsement of a wide range of anti-science beliefs and a corresponding reduction of trust in science.

Self-Iterating Soft Equalizer

open access: yes, 2013
A self-iterating soft equalizer (SISE) consisting of a few relatively weak constituent equalizers is shown to provide robust performance even in severe intersymbol interference (ISI) channels that exhibit deep nulls and valleys within the signal band ...

ALDOA Promotes Glycolysis and NLRP3/GSDMD Pyroptosis to Accelerate ALS Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Glycolytic dysregulation is implicated in disease progression, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates how Aldolase A (ALDOA) drives ALS progression through glycolysis‐mediated motor neuron pyroptosis.
