Protection by Hypothermia of Hypoxia-Induced Inhibition of Neurogenic Vasodilation in Porcine Cerebral Arteries

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2003
Porcine cerebral arterial strips denuded of the endothelium responded to transmural electrical stimulation (5 Hz for 40 s) with a relaxation, which was abolished by tetrodotoxin and N G-nitro-L-arginine, a NO synthase inhibitor.

Functional Evaluation of a Novel Microwave Surgical Device in a Canine Splenectomy Model

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Surgery, 2021
Aim: Partial splenectomy remains a difficult procedure even with the assistance of a sealing system. Recently, a scissor-like microwave energy device (Acrosurg) that provides seamless coagulation and manual cutting has been applied in surgery.

Hybrid-Type Temperature Sensor Using Thin-Film Transistors

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2014
We have developed a hybrid-type temperature sensor using thin-film transistors. First, we evaluate temperature dependences of transistor characteristics and find that the temperature dependence of the off-leakage current is much larger than that of the ...

The Diamesinae (Diptera: Chironomidae) in High-Altitude Andean Streams Using Morphological and Molecular Approaches. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Diamesinae is one of the 11 subfamilies of Chironomidae, characterized by its preference for cold waters, typically found in mountainous regions. For the genus Limaya, two OTUs were identified using all methods, one for Ecuador and one for Peru. Seven OTUs were identified for the genus Paraheptagyia.

How Effective are SETA Programs Anyway: Learning and Forgetting in Security Awareness Training

open access: yesJournal of Cybersecurity Education, Research & Practice, 2023
Prevalent security threats caused by human errors necessitate security education, training, and awareness (SETA) programs in organizations. Despite strong theoretical foundations in behavioral cybersecurity, field evidence on the effectiveness of SETA ...

Optimization of 3D Immunofluorescence Analysis and Visualization Using IMARIS and MeshLab

open access: yesCells, 2023
The precision of colocalization analysis is enhanced by 3D and is potentially more accurate than 2D. Even though 3D improves the visualization of colocalization analysis, rendering a colocalization model may generate a model with numerous polygons.

Self-healing of optical functions by molecular metabolism in a swollen elastomer

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2012
Optical functions of organic dyes, e.g., fluorescence or photochromism, tend to degrade by light irradiation, which causes a short lifetime of photonic devices.

Role of scheimpflug imaging in the diagnosis and management of keratitis caused by caterpillar seta

open access: yesOman Journal of Ophthalmology, 2010
A 16-year-old boy presented with a history of an accidental hit to the left eye by a butterfly (Lepidoptera). One seta fragment was found to be embedded into the cornea and inflammation secondary to penetration of caterpillar seta was seen around the ...
