Setaria viridis and Setaria italica, model genetic systems for the Panicoid grasses [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Experimental Botany, 2011
Setaria italica and its wild ancestor Setaria viridis are diploid C(4) grasses with small genomes of ∼515 Mb. Both species have attributes that make them attractive as model systems. Setaria italica is a grain crop widely grown in Northern China and India that is closely related to the major food and feed crops maize and sorghum.

Isolation of gametes and zygotes from Setaria viridis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Research, 2021
SummarySetaria viridis, the wild ancestor of foxtail millet (Setaria italica), is an effective model plant for larger C4 crops because it has several desirable traits, such as short generation time, prolific seed production and a small genome size. These advantages are well suited for investigating molecular mechanisms in angiosperms, especially C4 ...

Spike‐dip transformation of Setaria viridis [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, 2016
SummaryTraditional method of Agrobacterium‐mediated transformation through the generation of tissue culture had limited success for Setaria viridis, an emerging C4 monocot model. Here we present an efficient in planta method for Agrobacterium‐mediated genetic transformation of S. viridis using spike dip.

Population Genetics Of Setaria Viridis, A New Model System

open access: greenMolecular Ecology, 2014
AbstractAn extensive survey of the standing genetic variation in natural populations is among the priority steps in developing a species into a model system. In recent years, green foxtail (Setaria viridis), along with its domesticated form foxtail millet (S.

Synthesis of Novel Pyrazole Derivatives Containing Phenylpyridine Moieties with Herbicidal Activity

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
To discover new compounds with favorable herbicidal activity, a range of phenylpyridine moiety-containing pyrazole derivatives were designed, synthesized, and identified via NMR and HRMS.

Structural and Fractal Analysis of Soil Cracks Due to the Roots of Setaria Viridis

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2022
Soil surfaces form complex crack networks as a result of water loss and shrinkage. A crack network destroys the integrity of the soil and becomes the main factor affecting rainfall infiltration, slope instability and soil integrity. In this paper, a soil

Mapping of quantitative trait locus (QTLs) that contribute to germination and early seedling drought tolerance in the interspecific cross Setaria italica×Setaria viridis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Drought tolerance is an important breeding target for enhancing the yields of grain crop species in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Two species of Setaria, domesticated foxtail millet (S. italica) and its wild ancestor green foxtail (S. viridis)

Effect of pre-chilling and environmental factors on breaking seed dormancy and germination of three foxtail species

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 2015
The effect of wet and dry pre-chilling duration, pH, osmotic stress, salt stress and planting depth on seed germination and seedling emergence of three foxtail species (Setaria glauca, S. verticillata and S.

A phylogeny of Setaria (Poaceae, Panicoideae, Paniceae) and related genera based on the chloroplast gene ndhF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The genus Setaria is the largest genus in the so-called bristle clade, a monophyletic group of panicoid grasses distinguished by the presence of sterile branches, or bristles, in their inflorescences.
