Model selection and mechanism design for electricity markets in hydropower‐rich regions: Adaptation study

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 17, Issue 14, Page 3286-3301, July 2023., 2023
Most of the first eight pilot regions in China have entered the long‐period continuous operation stage, and the second batch of six power spot pilots have started their simulation trial runs; however, the construction of power markets in the hydropower‐rich regions of China (i.e.

A collection and categorization of open‐source wind and wind power datasets

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 25, Issue 10, Page 1659-1683, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Wind power and other forms of renewable energy sources play an ever more important role in the energy supply of today's power grids. Forecasting renewable energy sources has therefore become essential in balancing the power grid. While a lot of focus is placed on new forecasting methods, little attention is given on how to compare, reproduce ...

Event attribution of Parnaíba River floods in Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 1, Issue 1, February 2022., 2022
We analyzed recent flooding events in the lower Parnaíba River using the Hadley Centre's event attribution modeling system and hydrological modeling. The results indicated that anthropogenic emissions have contributed to the increase of an impact‐related flooding event in Luzilândia in 2018, 2019 and 2020 by about 25, 27, and 37%.

Revisiting a place‐based policy: Transformations in Northeast Brazil

open access: yesGrowth and Change, Volume 52, Issue 4, Page 2412-2436, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Despite being the second most populated region in Brazil, the Northeast has persistently accounted for a small share of national income. A well‐known attempt to develop the region was made in 1959 with the creation of SUDENE, a big push type of place‐based policy resulting in an intensification of industrial investments.

Long Memory Models to Generate Synthetic Hydrological Series

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
In Brazil, much of the energy production comes from hydroelectric plants whose planning is not trivial due to the strong dependence on rainfall regimes. This planning is accomplished through optimization models that use inputs such as synthetic hydrologic series generated from the statistical model PAR(p) (periodic autoregressive).

Nonhyperbolic Periodic Orbits of Vector Fields in the Plane Revisited

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The main goal of this paper is to present a theory of approximation of periodic orbits of vector fields in the plane. From the theory developed here, it is possible to obtain an approximation to the curve of nonhyperbolic periodic orbits in the bifurcation diagram of a family of differential equations that has a transversal Hopf point of codimension ...
