Recovery of fish stocks in the Seto Inland Sea
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2003The total amount of fisheries' yield in the Seto Inland Sea in 1999 was 571,000 MT, consisting of 256,000 MT by fishing and 315,000 MT from aquaculture. About 40,000 people engaged in the fishing and aquaculture industries, earned 129 billion yen (1100 million US$) by fishing and 89 billion yen (770 million $US) by aquaculture.

Oligotrophication in the Seto Inland Sea
2015Over the past 50 years, the Seto Inland Sea has experienced both eutrophication and oligotrophication. In terms of year-to-year variation, the relationship between the phosphorus load and the number of occurrences of red tides shows a clockwise hysteresis, while that between nutrient concentration and fish catch has a counterclockwise hysteresis.
