Single‐Step Recovery of Water from Stable Crude Oil‐Water Emulsion Using Surface Engineered Hybrid Inorganic‐Polymer Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomic layer deposition is used to conformally surface engineer polymeric membranes to fabricate inorganic–organic hybrid membranes. These membranes have exceptionally strong attraction toward water even in high oil containing emulsions, which leads to an extremely strong hydration layer at the interface.

A multi-energy inertia-based coordinated voltage and frequency regulation in isolated hybrid power system using PI-TISMC

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research
This paper proposes novel multi-energy inertia support for simultaneous frequency and voltage control of an isolated hybrid power system (IHPS). Multi-energy storage (gas inertia – hydrogen storage, thermal inertia – solar thermal storage, hydro inertia –

A Novel Modified Petroresin Particle (MPRP) With Enhanced Oil–Water Selectivity for Cold Production in Heavy Oil Reservoirs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel oil–water selective conformance control agent, MPRP, is prepared via hydrophilic grafting and mechanical granulation. MPRP uniformly disperses in water, cohesively expands upon aging, and readily dissolves in the oil phase. During conformance control, it selectively aggregates in water channeling pathways to form effective plugs without ...

Load Frequency Control Optimization of Micro Hydro Power Plant Using Genetic Algorithm Variant

open access: yesEnergies
The aim of this work is to explore a load frequency control (LFC) strategy in micro hydro power plants (MHPPs). Using MATLAB/Simulink, we examined several variants of genetic algorithms (GAs), including Roulette, Tournament, and Uniform, which are ...

One‐Step Curcumin‐Mediated Multiphoton Lithography for Bioactive 3D Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Curcumin‐mediated multiphoton lithography enables one‐step fabrication of highly architected complex gelatin methacryloyl scaffolds by exploiting curcumin as a multifunctional bioactive photoinitiator. The resulting 3D structures support mesenchymal stem cell adhesion, proliferation, and migration, while exhibiting dual antibacterial activity through ...

A Proposed Metaheuristic Proportional-Integral-Derivative Optimization Approach for Frequency Stability in Renewable Energy– Based Microgrids

open access: yesElectrica
This study addresses load frequency control (LFC) in a hybrid microgrid to mitigate frequency fluctuations induced by renewable energy integration. The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller was employed, and its gains were optimized using ...

A Novel Dual-Band Ultrathin FSS With Closely Settled Frequency Response

open access: yesIEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2017
This study presents a novel ultrathin dual-band frequency selective surface (FSS) for X-band applications. The proposed single-layer FSS operates as a band reject filter at 8.47 and 10.45 GHz. The ratio of these two operating bands has small value such as 1.23, and it points out that the proposed FSS has closely spaced characteristic.

Mineral Deposition From Liquid Precursors Triggered by Complementary Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte additives can delay or prevent crystal nucleation in supersaturated solutions of insoluble mineral salts such as calcium carbonate. This work reports that adding a second, oppositely‐charged polyelectrolyte leads to immediate mineral crystallization from such metastable solutions.

Development and Design of an Optimal Fuzzy Logic Two Degrees of Freedom-Proportional Integral Derivative Controller for a Two-Area Power System Using the Bee Algorithm

open access: yesEnergies
This study introduces a fuzzy logic-based two-degree-of-freedom PID (FL2DOF-PID) controller that is optimized using the Bee Algorithm (BA) to control the load frequency in a two-area linked power system that has both reheat thermal power plants and hydro

An Electrowetting Pump

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tubular electrowetting pump moves alternating droplets through a millimeter‐wide channel in discrete, reversible steps, functioning as a fluidic stepper motor. With no moving parts and electrodes insulated from the liquid, it delivers silent, accurate flow. Flexibility allows the pump to be woven directly into textiles for wearable, medical, and soft‐
