Abstract This study is the first to show a quantitative condition required for the establishment of severe–mild wear transition with sliding distance, by studying the effects of supply of Fe 2 O 3 particles onto rubbing steel surfaces on the transition and oxide film formation process.

Abstract A severe-mild wear transition was found in Alrubbing. Aluminium and zinc are both non-transition metals, hence mild wear has never been observed in AlAl and ZnZn rubbings under dry sliding conditions in air. However, mild wear was found during aluminium pin and zinc disk rubbing.

Abstract In pursuit of a carbon-neutral society by the year 2050, floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) garner heightened expectations. Mooring chains are commonly employed for the station-keeping of FOWTs, and long-term use can cause failure attributable to diameter reduction due to wear and corrosion.

The authors have been developing objective and combinational analysis method for multiple kinds of data obtained by a repeated sliding test performed with a pin-on-disk apparatus to clarify the wear mechanisms. The developed analysis method successfully showed the growth rate and the size of adhered substances on the sliding surface for adhesive wear ...

The transition of mild to severe wear of ceramics [PDF]
The transition of mild to severe wear of ceramics depends on the operating conditions (normal load, velocity and temperature) and material properties (like grain size, mechanical and thermal material properties). Adachi et al.
