Application of Syndromic Panels for respiratory Tract Infections in Lung Transplantation: A Critical Review on Current Evidence and Future Perspectives

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
Limited data on syndromic panels for detecting respiratory tract infections in lung transplant candidates and recipients are available. While these panels provide a rapid turnaround time, they may fail to identify specific pathogens relevant in this setting, such as fungi.

Point‐of‐Care Testing by Multiplex‐PCR in Different Compartments in Suspected Lower Respiratory Tract Infection After Lung Transplantation—Results of a Prospective Study

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
Use of POCtmPCR with noninvasive samples (NPS and sputum) in LTx recipients with viral LRTI are a viable alternative to invasive BAL sampling, ABSTRACT Background Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality following lung transplantation (LTx).

Respiratory Viruses at Time of Lung Transplant and the Relationship to Primary Graft Dysfunction

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is a form of severe and immediate post‐transplant lung injury that can lead to death. In our cohort of 229 patients undergoing lung transplantation with protocolized day 1 bronchoscopy specimens sent for respiratory viruses (RVs), RV+ status was not associated with an adjusted difference in the risk of PGD.

Burden of Seasonal Human Coronavirus Infections in Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Recipients

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
In this large study, we demonstrated that a high ISI is independently associated with HCoV LRI in HCT recipients. HCoV LRI was associated with several adverse outcomes such as ICU admission, oxygen requirement, and mortality. The ISI potentially may be used to identify high‐risk HCT recipients with HCoV infections.

SARS‐CoV‐2 convalescent plasma for the controlled clinical trial “COVIC‐19”: Experience from collection of very high‐titer plasma from superimmunized individuals

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background COVID‐19 convalescent plasma (CCP) is a treatment option for COVID‐19. Understanding of donor and product characteristics is important for optimization of CCP therapy. We report the experience of collection of very high‐titer CCP for the trial “A randomized open‐label trial of early, very high‐titer convalescent plasma therapy in ...
