Association of Deforestation With Severe Fever With Thrombocytopenia Syndrome

open access: yesThe Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2023
Abstract Background Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) virus was first isolated in China in 2009 and has since spread to several Asian countries. SFTS is closely related to environmental factors that accelerate vector growth. We evaluated the associations of SFTS and deforestation with

Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, Japan, 2013–2017 [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2020
We conducted an epidemiologic study of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) in Japan during 2013-2017. Of 303 cases reported during that period, 133 (44%) were included in this study. The median time between onset of illness and diagnosis of SFTS shortened, from 11.5 to 3.0 days, but the case-fatality rate remained high, at 27%.

Entry of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus [PDF]

open access: yesVirologica Sinica, 2016
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is a globe-shaped virus covered by a dense icosahedral array of glycoproteins Gn/Gc that mediate the attachment of the virus to host cells and the fusion of viral and cellular membranes. Several membrane factors are involved in virus entry, including C-type lectins and nonmuscle myosin heavy ...

The Emergence of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2017
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a newly recognized hemorrhagic fever disease found throughout Asia with a case fatality rate between 12% and 30%. Since 2009, SFTS has been reported in China throughout 14 Chinese Provinces. In addition, SFTS has been recognized in South Korea and Japan with the first confirmed cases reported in ...

Characterization of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome in rural regions of Zhejiang, China. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) infections have recently been found in rural regions of Zhejiang. A severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) surveillance and sero-epidemiological investigation was conducted in the ...

Direct Transmission of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus from Domestic Cat to Veterinary Personnel

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2020
Two veterinary personnel in Japan were infected with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) while handling a sick cat. Whole-genome sequences of SFTSV isolated from the personnel and the cat were 100% identical.

Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus in Ticks Collected from Humans, South Korea, 2013

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
We investigated the infection rate for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) among ticks collected from humans during May–October 2013 in South Korea. Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks have been considered the SFTSV vector.
