Drilling Problems Mitigation in Geothermal Environment, Case Studies of Stuck Pipe and Lost Circulation

open access: yes, 2017
Geothermal energy is one of fast growing renewables resource in the world. Demand for renewable resources leads to increase of geothermal drilling activities. Well cost contributes up to 40 % of total geothermal project cost. Drilling in geothermal faced

Diffusion as a Natural Contrast in MR Imaging of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Tissue Changes. A Case Study of the Clinical Application of DTI for a Patient with Chronic Calf Muscles Ischemia

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2021
This paper reports a first application of diffusion tensor imaging with corrections by using the B-matrix spatial distribution method (BSD-DTI) for peripheral artery disease (PAD) detected in the changes of diffusion tensor parameters (DTPs).

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Minimizing Lost Circulation Non-Productive Time Using Expected Monetary Value and Decision Tree Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Lost circulation and problems related to drilling present a major challenge for the drilling industry. Each year, billions are spent to treat these problems.

Beta1 subunits enable fentanyl‐induced BK channel activation and opioid regulation of cerebral artery diameter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During the current opioid crisis, the majority of overdose deaths are attributed to ultra‐potent synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl. While fentanyl exerts its action via opioid receptors, we propose that potassium channels in the brain blood vessels may also sense fentanyl.

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Superior fracture-seal material using crushed date palm seeds for oil and gas well drilling operations

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Engineering Sciences, 2019
Expenses for drilling represent 25% of the total oilfield exploitation cost. Drilling fluids represent 15–18% of the total cost of well petroleum drilling operations. The main drilling fluids problem is the loss into fractured and vugs.

Intracerebral Hemorrhage Induces Monocyte TNF Signaling in Patients That Is Suppressed by BAF312

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) causes high morbidity and mortality, with neurotoxic inflammation driven by infiltrating monocytes. This study is an in‐depth longitudinal examination of the immune response during the first week of ICH in the presence and absence of the immunomodulatory drug BAF312 (Siponimod).

Central retinal artery occlusion following embolization in juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma: A case report [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2018
Introduction. Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas are highly vascular, locally aggressive lesions, that affect male adolescents. The surgery is the treatment of choice, although it shows a strong propensity to bleed during surgical removal ...

A Diagnostic Survey of Aborted Equine Fetuses and Stillborn Premature Foals in Denmark

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2021
Background: Loss of pregnancy in mares can have many different causes, including both infectious and non-infectious conditions. Extrapolation of findings from other studies is often uncertain as the significance of each cause varies across regions ...
