Obesity and Severe Obesity Forecasts Through 2030

American Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2012
Previous efforts to forecast future trends in obesity applied linear forecasts assuming that the rise in obesity would continue unabated. However, evidence suggests that obesity prevalence may be leveling off. This study presents estimates of adult obesity and severe obesity prevalence through 2030 based on nonlinear regression models.

Severe Obesity and Heart Failure

The American Journal of Cardiology, 2022
Obesity is associated with reduced mortality in some patients hospitalized for heart failure (HF). In this analysis, we determine if this nonlinear relation, referred to as the obesity paradox, extends to secondary outcomes in patients diagnosed with severe obesity.

Dietary-induced severe obesity

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1986
A rat model for severe obesity has been developed by feeding the animals a fat-rich, sugar-rich diet. The concentration of fat in the diet was similar to what most Americans consume (about 40% kcal from fat). Calories from sugar was calculated to be 40.6%.

Glomerular hemodynamics in severe obesity

American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, 2000
Differential solute clearances were used to characterize glomerular function in 12 nondiabetic subjects with severe obesity (body mass index >38). Nine healthy subjects served as the control group. In the obese group, glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renal plasma flow (RPF) exceeded the control value by 51 and 31%, respectively.
